Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the main subject and correctly report that visitor numbers rose by 18,000, from 74,000 to 92,000. You also attempt to compare satisfaction before and after refurbishment. However, several key figures are misreported: before refurbishment, 30% were satisfied and 10% very dissatisfied, not the reverse; after refurbishment, 75% were satisfied or very satisfied, rather than “very happy,” while 20% were dissatisfied or very dissatisfied. The missing percentage before refurbishment also leaves a chart category unreported. There is no clear overview of the main pattern—that satisfaction improved substantially as visitor numbers increased. To strengthen the response, select the most important comparisons, report each category accurately, and summarise the overall change clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has separate paragraphs for the introduction, visitor numbers, and survey results, and words such as “while” and “however” show an attempt to connect comparisons. However, the information does not progress clearly: the first paragraph introduces both visuals, the second gives the visitor total and then moves into survey details, and the final paragraph reports only some post-refurbishment categories. The repeated use of “however” does not always establish a clear contrast, and “%%” interrupts the flow. Organise the response into a brief introduction, an overview, and paragraphs comparing the figures before and after refurbishment. Use linking expressions only where the relationship between the data is clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant terms, including “refurbishment,” “survey,” “visitors,” and “percentage,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, vocabulary is basic and repetitive, particularly “people,” “museum,” and “happy/not happy.” Some choices are imprecise for describing survey categories: “very happy” does not match the chart’s “very satisfied,” and “not satisfied” can blur the distinction between dissatisfied and very dissatisfied. Spelling errors such as “mueseum,” “muesum,” and “responce” also make the writing less clear. Use the chart’s exact category labels and vary reporting language with accurate terms such as “share,” “proportion,” and “respondents.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response includes simple statements and some attempts to join ideas, for example, “Before refurbishment … while only 15% …”. However, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships difficult to follow. The opening “The pie charts illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, and “the number of people's opinion” is an inaccurate sentence structure. Other examples include “people does not shown” and “people still does not gave,” where verb forms and agreement are faulty. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, including lowercase sentence openings and missing spaces after full stops. Practise accurate present and past forms, subject–verb agreement, and complete sentence boundaries before attempting longer comparisons.
