Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the main subject and report several relevant figures, including the rise in visitors from 74,000 to 92,000 and the unchanged 5% giving no response. You also note the increase in very satisfied visitors from 15% to 35%. However, the account only partly covers the survey results: it omits the 30% to 40% change in satisfied visitors and the fall in very dissatisfied responses from 10% to 5%. Some figures are mislabelled: 40% before refurbishment were dissatisfied, not “highly dissatisfied,” and 40% after were satisfied, not “highly satisfied.” The conclusion that only very satisfied visitors increased is inaccurate, since the satisfied group also rose. A clearer overview of the overall shift toward satisfaction, supported by accurate comparisons, would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs signposted by “Firstly” and “Secondly,” and a conclusion. This gives the reader some organisation, and the visitor totals are separated from the survey information. However, progression is limited because the survey details are not grouped into clear comparisons between the two years, and the conclusion repeats an inaccurate claim rather than drawing together the main trends. Connectors such as “Moreover” and “On the other hand” are used, but the contrast they signal is not always clear or logically precise. Organise the survey figures by category—for example, satisfaction rising and dissatisfaction falling—and use linking phrases to show those relationships. This would make the overall progression clearer and reduce the impression of a list of separate observations.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “refurbishment,” “surveys,” “satisfaction,” and “visitors,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes obscuring the intended meaning. For example, “highly dissatisfied” does not accurately describe the 40% category, which is simply “dissatisfied,” while “highly satisfied visits” is an awkward way to refer to visitors’ responses. “Tourists” is also less suitable than “visitors” for people visiting a museum. Repeated use of “visitors,” “tourists,” and “satisfied” makes the account less precise. Build a wider set of accurate reporting expressions, such as “the proportion who were dissatisfied fell” and “the share reporting satisfaction increased.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple and more extended sentence forms, but grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “there are 74,000 tourists are visits” combines incompatible verb structures; a clearer form is “74,000 visitors went to the museum.” The sentence beginning “Before refurbishment chart shows” is missing an article, and “the visitors are drastically increase” has an incorrect verb form and tense. There are also problems with sentence boundaries, such as beginning “And the given charts” as a separate sentence, and inconsistent capitalisation in “Only.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting and basic sentence patterns first, then use a few controlled complex sentences to compare the two periods.
