Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the museum’s visitor totals correctly: 74,000 before refurbishment and 92,000 afterwards. However, several survey figures are misreported. Before refurbishment, 40% were dissatisfied and 10% very dissatisfied, not 45% and 30%; 30% were satisfied, rather than 10%. Afterward, 35% were very satisfied, which is omitted, and the 15% dissatisfied figure is correct. The response also ends mid-sentence (“The Great part is”), so it does not provide a complete overview or clearly summarise the main change: satisfaction improved overall while visitor numbers rose. The response is 123 words, below the 150-word minimum; the 11 words copied from the prompt are excluded from that count. Report the key figures accurately and finish with a concise overview.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response by first describing visitor numbers and then discussing survey results before and after refurbishment. The transition “while after refurbishment” signals a comparison, and the colon introduces the survey section. However, the survey information is crowded into long, loosely connected sentences, with inconsistent spacing and punctuation making the progression difficult to follow. The final phrase, “The Great part is,” leaves the comparison unfinished. Use separate paragraphs for the visitor totals, the before-refurbishment results, and the after-refurbishment results, then add a clear overview. Linking phrases such as “By contrast” and “After refurbishment” can help make comparisons easier to track.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “total numbers of visitors,” “refurbishment,” “visitor satisfaction,” and “no response.” These terms show an attempt to describe the table and survey categories. However, the range is limited and some choices are inaccurate or awkward, such as “public” for survey respondents and “ranking also gone down” for a change in satisfaction percentages. Spelling errors in “mesum” and “distatsifed” also make the writing less clear, while “The Great part” is informal and incomplete for an academic summary. Aim for precise chart language, such as “the proportion of visitors who were dissatisfied fell,” and check spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, for example, “The table shows…” and the sentence beginning “in year before refurbishment…”. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. Examples include “The pie chart show” (subject–verb agreement), “in year before” (missing article), and “45 % people were dissatisfied” (missing “of”). The sentence beginning “while after refurbishment” lacks a clear grammatical structure, and the response ends with an incomplete clause. Use complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, check articles and agreement, and punctuate comparisons so that each sentence expresses one main point.
