Student answer (Band 6.0)

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover the main features by reporting the rise in visitors from 74,000 to 92,000 and the shift from predominantly dissatisfied responses before refurbishment to more positive responses afterwards. Most survey figures are accurate, including the 40% dissatisfied and 30% satisfied before, and 40% satisfied and 35% very satisfied after. However, there is an important misreading: before refurbishment, 15% were very satisfied, not very dissatisfied; the latter figure was 10%. The final description of the post-refurbishment 10% is also unclear, since it combines 5% very dissatisfied with 5% no response. The overview identifies the broad change, but clearer, more precise reporting of these categories would make the account more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the two periods. This makes the comparison easy to follow, and transitions such as “In contrast” and “On the other hand” help signal the change. However, the progression within the data paragraphs is not always smooth. In the pre-refurbishment paragraph, “15% were very dissatisfied” conflicts with the earlier figure and disrupts the sequence of categories. The final sentence also groups two distinct categories together rather than reporting them separately. Use a consistent order for satisfaction categories in both periods and connect each figure clearly to its label to make cohesion more precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “refurbishment,” “dissatisfied,” “significant growth,” and “expressing their satisfaction.” These choices communicate the general comparison, but some wording is inaccurate or unnatural for describing charts. “The graph demonstrates the output obtained” is an awkward way to introduce survey results, while “satisfactorily responses” uses the wrong form and “tourists” is less precise than “visitors” in this context. There are also spelling and spacing slips, such as “hear” and “Museumand.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and use the chart’s own category labels consistently; this would improve precision without requiring more elaborate vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including the contrastive overview sentence beginning “In contrast” and the longer sentence listing survey results. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “the year before and the year after refurbished” is missing a passive construction (“was refurbished”), and “the number … were” has a subject–verb agreement problem. In “with majority of the visitors,” an article is needed, while “no response were gotten” has agreement and awkward passive construction. The final sentence also shifts between “40% … expressing” and “35% were,” making the structure uneven. Check agreement, articles, and parallel forms when presenting figures.
