Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The pie chart below illustrates the outcome of surveys of tourist satisfaction to Ashdown Museum during the year before and the year after it was modernized.
Overall, the total number of visitors increased during the year after refurbishment. Moreover, results of analysis showed that travellers were much more satisfied and less dissatisfied after refurbishment.
The research demonstrate that around 30% travellors were satisfied before remodelled and 15% people felt very satisfied. However, the proportion of dissatisfaction increased to about 40% which was the major reason of decline in total number of visitors before refurbishment. The survey showed 10% figure for very dissatisfied tourists and 5% people gave no response.
After the refurbishment, the analysis represented that the percentage of very satisfied and satisfied visitors dramatically rose to around 35% and 40%. Furthermore, the number of travellers who felt dissatisfied and very dissastisfied gradually declined to about 15% and 5%. The percentage of travellers who did not respond remained unchange at 5%. As a result the museum welcomed 92,000 travellers after enhancement.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover the main features and report the figures accurately: visitors rose from 74,000 to 92,000, while satisfaction increased and dissatisfaction fell. Your overview clearly identifies these broad changes, and the survey percentages are generally well selected. This meets the task well, with some evidence of the fuller development expected at the next level. However, the claim that dissatisfaction was “the major reason of decline in total number of visitors” is unsupported and contradicts the increase in visitor numbers. Also, the 74,000 figure is not stated in the body, and the opening calls the visuals a “pie chart” rather than describing the table and charts. Avoid inferring causes and report both visitor totals explicitly for a more complete account.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the two survey periods. The progression from the pre-refurbishment results to the post-refurbishment results is easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “However,” “Furthermore,” and “As a result” help connect ideas. At times, though, cohesion is mechanical or the relationship between statements is unclear. In particular, “As a result” suggests that the satisfaction results caused the visitor total, while the task only presents these as comparisons. The unsupported claim about dissatisfaction causing a decline also disrupts the logical progression. Use more precise links, and keep each paragraph focused on reporting comparisons rather than inferred explanations.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “satisfaction,” “dissatisfaction,” “proportion,” and “remained.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing survey data. “The research demonstrate” and “the analysis represented” are not suitable collocations, while “travellors” and “dissastisfied” contain spelling errors. “Modernized,” “remodelled,” and “enhancement” vary the wording but are less precise than consistently using “refurbished.” These issues make the vocabulary less controlled, although the intended meaning is usually clear. Aim for accurate, natural reporting phrases such as “the survey showed” and “the proportion of visitors,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including contrast with “However” and a relative clause in “which was the major reason…”. Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors reduce accuracy. For example, “The research demonstrate” has subject–verb disagreement, and “30% travellors were satisfied” needs a determiner or a more suitable noun phrase, such as “30% of visitors were satisfied.” The phrase “remained unchange at 5%” also has an incorrect form and construction; write “remained unchanged at 5%.” Review agreement, articles and percentage constructions, while keeping the sentence patterns varied. More consistently accurate sentences would strengthen the response.
