Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main increase in visitor numbers, from 74,000 to 92,000, and note the rise in very satisfied responses and the unchanged no-response figure. However, the overview is too general: “people were very satisfied” does not clearly summarise the overall shift from mostly dissatisfied responses before refurbishment to mostly satisfied responses afterwards. Some key figures are omitted, including the rise in satisfied visitors from 30% to 40% and the fall in very dissatisfied responses from 10% to 5%; the statement that dissatisfaction “fell by half” is also inaccurate, since the dissatisfied category fell from 40% to 15%. The response is 143 words, below the 150-word minimum. Include a fuller overview and report the main categories accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details, and phrases such as “Overall” and “Looking at the details” help signal this organisation. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is uneven: the account moves from visitor totals to satisfaction categories, then returns to dissatisfaction and non-response without a clear comparison framework. “This is followed by satisfied” is an unclear link, and “Moving further” does not establish a meaningful next stage. Group the satisfaction results into positive and negative responses, comparing before and after consistently, and use referencing that makes each figure’s period clear. This would make the organisation more coherent and reduce the impression of loosely connected observations.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “refurbishment,” “proportion,” “dissatisfied,” and “increased,” so the reader can generally understand the topic. However, the range is limited and several choices or forms are inaccurate or repetitive. “Table chart” is not an appropriate description of the visuals, while “the figure of visitors” and “total number accounted for” are awkward collocations. There are also spelling errors such as “informatipn,” “satified,” and “perventage,” which make the writing less controlled. Prefer precise chart language and avoid repeatedly substituting “restoration,” “renovation,” and “development” for refurbishment when the meaning is not improved. More accurate collocations and careful proofreading would strengthen clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including a comparison with “this figure increased by 18,000 after refurbishment.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors occur in basic sentence patterns as well as longer constructions. For example, “a Ashdown Museum” has an article error, “before renovation it were 15%” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, and “35% people were very satisfied” is missing a grammatical link such as “of.” The sentence beginning “This is followed by satisfied” is also incomplete or unclear in its construction. Use complete, direct sentences and check articles, agreement, and the grammatical structure around percentages. Greater accuracy in these recurring patterns would make the comparisons easier to follow.
