Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main comparison in visitor numbers, stating that attendance was higher after refurbishment, and you attempt to describe satisfaction levels. However, the account is only partial and some figures are misreported: before refurbishment, “very dissatisfied” was 10%, not 30%, while “dissatisfied” was 40%. The after-refurbishment results are not accurately summarised; in fact, satisfaction improved, with satisfied or very satisfied responses rising from 45% to 75%, while dissatisfaction fell from 50% to 20%. The overview also says “Very after dissatisfide highest,” which does not clearly communicate the main trend. To strengthen the response, report the visitor totals (74,000 and 92,000), give a clear overview of the shift in satisfaction, and compare the key categories accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is an attempt to organise the response into an introduction, an overview and further detail, so the reader can see that you are trying to group the information. However, progression is difficult to follow because several paragraphs repeat the same point about visitor numbers, such as “after highest number” and “before…lowest amount,” without adding clear comparisons. Linking phrases including “On the other hand,” “A brief analysis reveals,” and “However” do not consistently show the relationship between the ideas that follow. The final paragraph also ends with an incomplete comparison. Arrange the response into a concise overview followed by paragraphs comparing visitor totals and survey results, and use linking words only where they clarify the connection.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “refurbishment,” “visitor satisfaction,” and “dissatisfied,” which shows an attempt to describe the charts. However, the range is limited and repeated wording such as “highest number of visitor” and “lowest number” makes the account imprecise. Frequent spelling errors—such as “illustates,” “refurbihment,” and “satisfide”—also make parts of the response harder to understand. Some expressions are not appropriate for this data, for example “Ashdown Museum traveller” and “number of travel”; visitors are people, while the figures represent attendance. Build a reliable set of chart-description terms and check spelling and word forms, especially for the satisfaction categories.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentences, but control is weak: errors occur frequently and sometimes obscure the intended meaning. For example, “the pie chart describe that result” has subject–verb disagreement, while “the total number … was highest number of visitor” has problems with articles and sentence structure. The opening sentence combines several ideas without a clear grammatical pattern, and the final sentence trails off after “and satisfied.” Punctuation and capitalisation are also inconsistent, particularly in the overview. Practise writing short, complete comparisons first—for example, “Visitor numbers rose from 74,000 to 92,000”—then combine them with accurate clauses using “while” or “whereas.”
