Student answer (Band 6.5)
The table gives information on the number of people that visited the Ashdown Museum before and after its renovation, while the pie chart presents the data on the satisfaction rate of the visitors during these same periods.
Overall, the amount of people visiting the museum increased significantly after its remodeling. Along with this, the satisfation rate of the visitors shpwed improvement. Before the refurbishment, people were unsatisfied with their visit to the museum. However, the renovation indeed boosted their overall experience significantly.
During the year before Ashdown Museum was refurbished, the survey shows that about 40 percent of people were unsatisfied with their overall experience. On the other hand, only 30% of people were satisfied. Furthermore, 15% of the visitors truly enjoyed their visit. But when the same survey was conducted a year after the remodeling, the results were positive. About 40 percent of the people has a satisfactory experience during their visit. Also, about 35% of the people were very satisfied and had had a great experience. On the contrary, the dissatisfaction rate dropped significantly to about 15%, showing a complete change in the visitors' experience.
This also boosted the total number of tourists to the museum. The total number of people visiting the Ashdown Museum before its repairs were about 74000. However, after the renovation, the number of visitors spiked.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You identify the main overall changes: visitor numbers rose after refurbishment, and satisfaction improved. The key figures you report—74,000 visitors before, and satisfaction moving from 30% to 40% and very satisfied from 15% to 35%—match the data. You also note dissatisfaction falling from 40% to 15%, which is an important comparison. This gives the response a clear overview and relevant supporting detail. To make the account more complete and precise, state the after-refurbishment visitor total of 92,000; the final sentence says the number “spiked” but does not give the figure. You could also distinguish the 40% dissatisfied group from the 10% very dissatisfied group before refurbishment, rather than combining them as “unsatisfied.” The main features are covered, though some comparisons are less fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing satisfaction results and visitor numbers. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “On the other hand,” and “However” help signal comparisons, and the reader can follow the broad progression. However, some connections are mechanical or imprecise. “This also boosted the total number of tourists” suggests that improved satisfaction caused the increase, which the charts do not establish. The final paragraph is also underdeveloped: it gives the earlier total but ends without reporting the later figure. Use clearer grouping—for example, compare the two visitor totals together, then compare satisfaction categories—and ensure each paragraph completes its point.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “refurbishment,” “satisfaction rate,” “dissatisfaction,” and “overall experience.” These choices make the topic clear, and some variation in wording avoids excessive repetition. There are, however, several spelling and word-choice issues that limit precision: “satisfation” and “shpwed” are misspelled, while “remodeling,” “repairs,” and “tourists” are less suitable or less consistent than the task’s terms for a museum refurbishment and its visitors. “Spiked” is also somewhat informal for an academic report. Aim for accurate, consistent chart language and avoid implying more than the data shows. More precise terms such as “visitors,” “refurbishment,” and “increased” would strengthen the report’s academic tone.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “when the same survey was conducted a year after the remodeling.” Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly, and the overall account remains easy to understand. Some grammatical errors persist, however. In “the people has a satisfactory experience,” the plural subject requires “had”; “the total number of people … were about 74000” needs singular agreement (“was”), and “people visiting … before its repairs were about” is an awkward construction. The phrase “had had a great experience” also uses an unnecessary past perfect in this context. These are generally understandable, but checking subject–verb agreement and choosing a consistent past tense would improve accuracy.
