Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response identifies the topic and attempts an overview, noting that visitor satisfaction changed and that “no response” remained stable. However, it does not adequately summarise the main features and contains important inaccuracies: the 40% figure applies to dissatisfaction before refurbishment, not to both satisfied and dissatisfied categories in both years; after refurbishment, satisfaction was 35% very satisfied and 40% satisfied. The claim that the “satisfied proportion” rose from 30 to 35 confuses the satisfied category with the very satisfied category. Visitor totals (74,000 and 92,000) are not reported. The response is also substantially below the required 150 words, with 83 words submitted and 11 prompt words excluded. Include a clear overview and accurately compare the key figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence is followed by an overview and then a detail paragraph. The use of “Overall” and “As documented” signals a move between ideas, but the progression is difficult to follow because the final paragraph combines several comparisons without explaining them clearly. For example, “The category number of satisfied and dissatisfied were same number 40 percentage before and after” is confusing and does not establish which year or category is being described. The response also ends abruptly, with no complete summary of the data. Use separate, logically ordered paragraphs for the overview and key comparisons, and connect each figure explicitly to its category and year.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “visitors,” “survey,” “satisfied,” “dissatisfied,” and “proportion,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms make the meaning unclear, such as “results of survey of visitors number,” “significant chenged,” and “category number.” Spelling errors in “Ashdow Musume” and “refurbisment” are also noticeable. Aim for accurate chart language and natural collocations, such as “visitor numbers,” “survey results,” and “the proportion of visitors who were satisfied.” Check spelling carefully and avoid repeating “refurbishment” when a clear reference to “before” or “after” will do.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple statements and a longer comparison, but grammatical control is inconsistent and sentence structures are mostly basic. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in phrases such as “the results … were increase,” “the number of people were remained stable,” and “the category number … were same number.” The sentence beginning “where” is not properly connected to the preceding sentence, and punctuation is missing after “refurbisment” in the overview. These problems make some relationships between the figures difficult to understand. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and subject–verb agreement, and build comparisons with clear patterns such as “The proportion rose from X to Y, while…”
