Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main contrast in satisfaction: dissatisfaction was the largest category before refurbishment, while satisfaction was strongest afterwards. You also report the visitor totals accurately (74,000 and 92,000) and include several survey figures. This covers the key parts of the task, with a clear overview. However, some details are unclear or misreported: before refurbishment, 10% were very dissatisfied and 15% very satisfied, but the response calls these groups “greatly and moderatly pleasant,” making the categories difficult to identify. The after-refurbishment figures for satisfied and very satisfied visitors are not clearly matched to their percentages. To strengthen the report, state the figures alongside each category consistently and make the overall rise in visitor numbers part of the overview.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on survey details, and a final sentence about visitor totals. This gives the reader a generally coherent route through the information. Linking phrases such as “In general,” “Looking at the details,” and “Additionally” help signal stages, though some transitions feel mechanical or do not clarify the comparison. The final visitor-total sentence is separated from the survey discussion rather than integrated into the overview or a comparison paragraph. References such as “another pie chart” and “the figures” are also somewhat vague. Grouping the before-and-after results in parallel sentences, and using clearer references to each satisfaction category, would make the progression more fluent and precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “total number,” “accounted the largest proportion,” “highest share,” and “constituted.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for this report, and some make the categories hard to understand. “Tourists,” “travelers,” and “holidaymakers” are less precise than “visitors,” while “greatly and moderatly pleasant” does not accurately name satisfaction levels. Phrases such as “satisfied with their service” and “similiar in rate” are also awkward, and spelling errors include “moderatly” and “similiar.” Aim for consistent, precise labels from the chart and natural collocations such as “were satisfied with their visit” and “accounted for.” This would improve clarity and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “whereas” and a time comparison introduced by “during the year before.” The main message is usually understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “during the year before refurbished” needs a complete passive construction, and “the visitors who gave no response were the least” lacks a clear grammatical completion. In “the visitors who were satisfied had the highest percentage,” the percentage is attributed awkwardly to people rather than to a category. There are also article, agreement, and punctuation issues, such as inconsistent capitalisation of “Ashdown” and missing spaces after full stops. More accurate clause construction and careful proofreading would help.
