Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main comparison: visitor numbers rose from 74,000 to 92,000, and dissatisfaction fell after refurbishment. You also report several survey figures accurately, including 40% dissatisfied before and 15% after, and 35% very satisfied afterwards. However, the account is only partly reliable: you say that after refurbishment only 5% were satisfied, although the chart shows 40%, and you assign 40% to the very dissatisfied group, which was actually 5%. The overview is also unclear and does not summarise the overall shift towards satisfaction. Select the key trends, check each category against the chart, and state the main changes clearly before giving supporting figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic structure, with an opening, an overview, and separate discussion of the two periods. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, progression is uneven: the overview is vague, and the final sentence returns to visitor totals after the survey discussion rather than integrating the table comparison earlier. Connectors such as “meanwhile,” “secondly,” and “furthermore” are used mechanically or do not clearly express the relationship between the figures. Use one paragraph for the overview and organise the details in a consistent order, comparing the same satisfaction categories across both years. Clearer referencing would also help readers follow which period each figure describes.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “refurbishment,” “dissatisfied,” “satisfied,” and “rose,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or combinations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “visitors are satisfy with there visit” and “the dramatic change in dissatisfied percentage visitors” are not natural ways to describe survey results. “Sudden dramatic change” is also repetitive, while “ratio” is less suitable than “percentage” for these figures. Aim for precise chart language and check spelling and word forms. Phrases such as “the proportion of visitors who were dissatisfied fell” would communicate the trend more clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
There are attempts to use longer sentences and contrast, for example, “While the chart shows…” and “On the other hand…”, but sentence structures are often faulty, and errors frequently affect clarity. Examples include “This table illustrate,” “before and after refurbishing of it,” and “the sudden dramatic change … were decrease.” These show problems with subject–verb agreement, verb forms, and sentence construction. Articles and sentence openings are also inconsistent, as in “year before refurbishment” and “secondly.” Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses. For example: “Before refurbishment, 40% were dissatisfied, compared with 15% afterwards.”
