Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main contrast in satisfaction: dissatisfaction was highest before refurbishment, while satisfaction was higher afterwards. You also report several survey figures accurately, including 40% dissatisfied before and 35% very satisfied and 40% satisfied after. However, the response does not report the important visitor totals of 74,000 and 92,000, and it gives no clear overview of the overall increase in visitor numbers. Some descriptions are imprecise: “almost 40%” is unnecessary when the figure is exactly 40%, and “majority” overstates the combined satisfied share after refurbishment, which is 75% rather than more than half only if both positive categories are clearly combined. Focus on the key comparisons and present them neutrally, without guessing why visitors felt as they did.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic structure, moving from an opening summary to figures for the period before refurbishment and then the period after it. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, the opening is an unusually long sentence that combines several ideas, and the progression is weakened by repeated references to visitors’ feelings rather than a clear comparison of the two periods. Linking words such as “moreover,” “so,” and “because” are sometimes used mechanically or do not express a logical relationship. For example, the speculation beginning “probably they enjoyed” interrupts the data report. Use separate paragraphs for an overview and the main comparisons, and connect figures with precise contrasts such as “by comparison” or “whereas.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt a range of vocabulary related to the topic, including “refurbishment,” “satisfaction,” “dissatisfaction,” and “surprising.” However, word choice and spelling errors are frequent enough to make parts of the response difficult to read, as in “thier,” “torisits,” “retoration,” and “faciltied.” Several expressions are also unnatural or imprecise: “numerous number of visitors dissatisfaction” and “extremely sad” do not describe survey categories appropriately. In IELTS Task 1, prefer neutral, accurate terms such as “visitors,” “satisfied,” and “dissatisfied,” and avoid emotional or speculative wording. Proofreading spelling and learning common collocations for describing percentages would make your meaning clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to combine ideas using longer sentences, but these structures are often faulty, and sentence boundaries are not consistently controlled. The opening runs several clauses together, while “because there also 15% of the visitors were still not happy” is missing a grammatical structure such as “there were.” Other examples include “30% were just satisfied with their visit” after a sentence fragment and “5% of them didn't gave,” where the verb form after “didn’t” is incorrect. Articles and sentence punctuation are also inconsistent. These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences first, then add subordinate clauses while checking subject–verb structure, verb forms, and punctuation.
