Student answer (Band 6.0)
The bar chart compares the total number of visitors to Ashdown Museum, while the pie charts illustarate the results of survey regarding the satisfaction level among tourists before and after the renovation.
Overall, after refurbihsment the amount of visitors increased as previously recorded. On the other hand, after the renovation the respondents who gave very positive response accounted the large proportion and visitors with very dissatisfied response declined.
On the one hand, regarding the number of visitors, it gradually increased upto 92000 with the massive difference of 18000 visitors as recorded previously. In contrast, regarding the satisfaction level, before reconstruction, the people with very satisfied response accounted the proportion of 15% only, which was the half of satisfied responses. Moreover, the 40% visitors gave the response of dissatisfaction, while the very dissatisfied respondents accounted the proportion of 10%. In addition, 5% visitors gave no response.
On the other hand, the year after refurbishment, the respondents with very satisfaction level significantly increased upto 35%. Furthermore, tourists with the satisfied view accounted the proportion of 40%, while in contrast, the 15% responses go with the dissatisfiactio. In addition, the viewer with the very low satisfaction and no respone remains the same and accounted the proportion of 5% each.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You cover both the visitor total and the satisfaction surveys, and the main comparisons are accurate: attendance rose from 74,000 to 92,000, very satisfied responses increased from 15% to 35%, and dissatisfaction fell from 40% to 15%. Your overview identifies the broad improvement after refurbishment, while the body includes relevant figures for both periods. This gives the response a clear, well-supported account of the key features. To make the reporting more precise, state explicitly that satisfied responses also rose from 30% to 40%, and distinguish the two negative categories: very dissatisfied responses fell from 10% to 5%, whereas no response remained at 5%. Avoid broad wording such as “very positive response” when the chart separates satisfaction levels.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the two periods. This helps the reader follow the comparison, and phrases such as “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” signal the shift between topics. However, some linking is mechanical or does not express the relationship clearly. For example, “as previously recorded” is unclear in the overview, and “In contrast” does not introduce a clear contrast in the sentence about the visitor total. The long body paragraphs also combine several figures without always grouping related satisfaction categories. Use more precise transitions and organise each period’s figures in a consistent order to make progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of task-related vocabulary, including “refurbishment,” “respondents,” “accounted,” and “dissatisfaction,” and the reader can generally understand the intended comparisons. However, several choices are unnatural or imprecise, such as “the amount of visitors,” “very satisfaction level,” and “the responses go with the dissatisfaction.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “illustarate,” “refurbihsment,” “dissatisfiactio,” and “respone.” These reduce the accuracy and fluency of the vocabulary. Prefer standard chart-reporting collocations such as “the number of visitors,” “the proportion who were very satisfied,” and “responses indicating dissatisfaction,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple statements and longer sentences with clauses, for example, “Moreover, the 40% visitors gave the response of dissatisfaction, while the very dissatisfied respondents accounted the proportion of 10%.” This shows an attempt to vary sentence structure, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors recur in sentence construction and grammatical patterns. Examples include “the amount of visitors increased as previously recorded. On the other hand,” where punctuation and sentence boundaries are faulty, and “the 40% visitors,” which needs an appropriate determiner or a different construction. “The respondents with very satisfaction level significantly increased” also has an incomplete grammatical pattern. Build shorter, controlled comparisons first, then combine them, and check articles, prepositions, and punctuation.
