Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main rise in attendance, from 74,000 to 92,000, and report key changes in satisfaction: dissatisfaction fell from 40% to 15%, while very satisfied responses rose from 15% to 35%. However, the account is incomplete: it omits the increase in satisfied visitors from 30% to 40%, the fall in very dissatisfied responses from 10% to 5%, and the unchanged 5% with no response. The final sentence is unfinished, and the overview’s phrase “over satisfied” is unclear. The response is also five words below the required minimum. Develop a complete overview and cover the main categories more systematically to make the summary more fully address the task.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and paragraphs giving figures, and it generally moves from overall attendance to satisfaction results. This gives the reader some organisation. However, progression is weakened by repeating the same comparisons across the overview and detail paragraphs, and the final line, “Many visitors were”, is incomplete and leaves an idea unresolved. Connections between the figures are also limited, so the response reads more like a short list than a fully developed summary. Group the satisfaction categories into clear comparisons—for example, positive responses versus negative responses—and finish each paragraph with a complete point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing change, including “increased”, “decreased sharply” and “dramatic upward trend”. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or awkward for this task. “Over satisfaction” does not clearly express the chart’s “very satisfied” category, while “people who were not happy” is less precise than “dissatisfied visitors”. Spelling errors such as “dicreased”, “peolple”, “musem” and “refurbisment” are noticeable and can distract the reader. Use the chart’s category labels consistently, and check spelling and collocations when editing. This would make the comparisons clearer and more appropriately formal.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer structures, such as “The people who were dissatisfied before decreased sharply, while…” This shows some ability to connect related information. However, errors occur frequently, and the range of sentence patterns is limited. For example, “The pie charts illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, and “The people who were satisfied with the visit were 30 year before” has an unclear grammatical construction. The final fragment, “Many visitors were”, is also incomplete. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and complete comparative sentences, such as “The proportion of satisfied visitors rose from 30% to 40%.”
