Student answer (Band 6.5)
The table illustrates the total number of visitors that visited ashdown museum before and after rennovation while the accompanying pie charts provide information on the result of the surveys that was carried out among the visitors about how satisfied they are with the previous and the current structural layout of ashdown mesuem.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The response covers both the visitor totals and the satisfaction surveys, and its main comparisons are accurate: visitors rose from 74,000 to 92,000, while satisfaction increased and dissatisfaction fell after refurbishment. The overview identifies these broad changes, and the body includes the key survey figures, including the unchanged 5% with no response. This gives the report a clear, well-supported account of the main features. To make the overview more precise, state the overall shift in satisfaction directly—for example, that satisfied or very satisfied visitors became the majority after refurbishment—rather than referring vaguely to the “present layout.” Also avoid implying that the survey measured opinions specifically about the museum’s structural layout; the task reports satisfaction with the visit, not its layout alone.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on survey results, and a final paragraph on visitor numbers. The progression from satisfaction data to attendance is logical, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Meanwhile,” and “Turning to” help guide the reader. However, some connections are mechanical or imprecise. “However” introduces the after-refurbishment figures, but the contrast is not clearly framed, and “Similarly” does not accurately describe the relationship between the two groups that each account for 5%. The long opening sentence also carries several ideas at once. Use more precise comparisons and references, and make the relationship between each set of figures explicit to strengthen cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses relevant task vocabulary, including “refurbishment,” “respondents,” “dissatisfied,” and “increased significantly,” so the reader can understand the comparisons. However, noticeable spelling errors—such as “rennovation,” “vistors,” “mesuem,” and “reponsedent”—reduce accuracy and make the writing look less controlled. Some word choices are also awkward or repetitive: “visitors that visited” repeats the same idea, while “the response of the visitors … says” is not a natural way to report survey results. “Structural layout” and “reconstruction” are also less precise than the task’s wording. Check spelling carefully and favour concise, conventional collocations for describing survey proportions and changes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
There is a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a subordinate clause in the introduction and contrastive structures such as “whereas” and “However.” Most meanings remain clear, but some grammatical errors persist. For example, “the result of the surveys that was carried out” has a number-agreement problem, and “5% of the respondents gives no response” uses an incorrect verb form. Tense and agreement are also inconsistent in “visitors are dissatisfied” when describing the year before refurbishment. The opening sentence is long and would be easier to control if divided. Review subject–verb agreement, past-tense reporting, and sentence boundaries while retaining the range of structures attempted.
