Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response identifies the two visitor totals accurately and notices several relevant survey figures, including the 40% dissatisfied before refurbishment and the unchanged 5% with no response. However, the comparisons are incomplete and sometimes inaccurate: after refurbishment, 40% were satisfied, not “very satisfied,” and the 15% very dissatisfied figure applies to the year before, while the after-refurbishment figure is 5%. The response also omits the important overall pattern that satisfaction rose substantially while dissatisfaction fell. There is no clear overview of the main changes, and some figures are described without making their category or period clear. To strengthen the report, summarise the overall trends first, then compare the key categories accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the visuals, gives the visitor totals, and then discusses survey results. Linking phrases such as “If we look closely” and “When we compare” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, the organisation does not provide a clear overall progression, and the survey comparisons are difficult to follow because categories and time periods shift within sentences. For example, “the part 40 after refurbishment” does not clearly identify which response category is meant. The final paragraph also moves between 15% and 10% without a clear comparison structure. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and key details, and group figures by satisfaction category or by year, with clear references throughout.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “refurbishment,” “survey,” “visitors,” and “dissatisfied,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing charts. “Pi-graphs” is less appropriate than “pie charts,” while “the results are satisfactory” does not clearly name the 40% satisfied category. There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “catagories,” “regardind,” “tourisits,” and “reults,” which reduce precision. “Renovation” and “renewal” are used as alternatives for refurbishment, but the repeated variation does not improve clarity. Aim for accurate category labels and standard chart-reporting phrases, such as “accounted for” and “the proportion of visitors who were dissatisfied.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more complex sentences, including a comparison introduced by “but at the same time” and a conditional-style opening, “If we look closely.” However, grammatical control is inconsistent. The opening sentence is a long, poorly punctuated structure, and “the year before refurbishment are 74,000” has a subject–verb agreement error. In “we comes to know,” the verb form is incorrect, while “the there is” contains an unnecessary repeated article. Several sentences also lack clear grammatical links between the figures and the categories they describe. Use shorter, controlled sentences and check agreement, articles, and punctuation; for example, state each period’s total in a separate sentence before making comparisons.
