Student answer (Band 5.5)
The table illustrates the number of visitors to a museum during the year before and the year after it was reopened, while the charts demonstrate the outcome of a survey asking visitors how satisfied they were with their visit during the same two-year periods.
Overall, the visitors of the museum was visited twice in different years, and visitors also gave their opinions after the museum was refurbished, and also showed their percentage of satisfaction or dissatisfaction.
In the previous year, the total number of museum visitors was 74,000; of these, 15% were very satisfied, while 30% were satisfied; after that, they showed the proportion of dissatisfied visitors, which was a huge amount, 40%, and 10% were very dissatisfied. However, people who visited museums but did not give any response were 5%.
After refurbishment, the total number of visitors was 92,000; the individuals who were very satisfied after refurbishment were 35%, which was an increase of 5%; the proportion of those who were satisfied was 40% which was an increase of 10%. However, the dissatisfied visitors were 15% which was a decrease of 25% and also the percentage of very dissatisfied visitors 5% aslo decrase 5%. Therefore, the number of respondents remained stable

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You report the main visitor totals accurately (74,000 and 92,000) and include all five satisfaction categories for both periods. The figures show a clear overall shift towards greater satisfaction: satisfied or very satisfied responses rose from 45% to 75%, while dissatisfied or very dissatisfied responses fell from 50% to 20%. However, the overview does not identify this key pattern; instead, “the visitors of the museum was visited twice” is unclear and does not summarise the results. Some comparisons are also inaccurate: very satisfied responses increased by 20 percentage points, not 5, and the dissatisfied share fell by 25 percentage points, not 25% in a clearly stated comparison. The claim that respondents remained stable is unsupported. Select the main trends and compare percentage-point changes precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an attempted overview, and separate descriptions of the two periods. This gives the reader some organisation, and words such as “However” and “Therefore” show an effort to connect ideas. Nevertheless, progression is weakened because the overview is difficult to understand and does not guide the details that follow. The long final paragraph lists figures in sequence, while connectors such as “after that” do not express a clear relationship between the categories. “Therefore” also introduces a conclusion about stable respondents that has not been established. Organise the body around comparisons—for example, group the rising satisfaction categories together and the falling dissatisfaction categories together—and use clear references to each year.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “refurbished,” “proportion,” “dissatisfied,” and “respondents,” and the reader can generally identify the categories being discussed. However, the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning unclear. “The visitors of the museum was visited twice” does not convey the intended comparison, and “a huge amount” is unsuitable for a percentage. There are also spelling errors in “aslo” and “decrase,” and “increase of 5%” is imprecise when describing a change from 15% to 35%. Use concise chart language such as “the share rose by 20 percentage points” and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more extended sentences, including clauses introduced by “while” and “which,” but control is inconsistent. Errors occur in basic sentence structure and agreement: “the visitors of the museum was visited twice” has an unclear subject and incorrect verb form, while “the percentage of very dissatisfied visitors 5%” lacks a verb. The phrase “the individuals who were very satisfied after refurbishment were 35%” also uses an awkward grammatical construction for reporting a proportion. These problems sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow. Build accurate comparison sentences with a clear subject and verb, such as “The proportion who were very satisfied rose from 15% to 35%,” and proofread for complete clauses and agreement.
