Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main context and include the visitor totals, but several key survey figures are misreported or omitted, which limits the accuracy of the summary. Before refurbishment, 40% were dissatisfied, but you incorrectly say 30% were “very dissatisfied”; the chart shows 10%. After refurbishment, very dissatisfaction fell from 10% to 5%, rather than increasing, and dissatisfaction fell substantially from 40% to 15%. Your overview also calls the decrease in dissatisfaction marginal, although it is a major change. You correctly note the rise in visitors and the unchanged 5% giving no response, and the 20-point rise in very satisfied visitors. To improve, report the main categories accurately and compare both satisfaction and dissatisfaction across the two periods.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs for the two periods. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Whereas,” and “However” help signal relationships between points. However, progression is weakened because the final paragraph does not clearly organise the after-refurbishment figures, and “Whereas” begins a sentence without a clear contrasting clause. The overview also repeats some information without establishing the most important comparison, while the body leaves several categories unreported. Use a consistent sequence—visitor totals, then satisfaction categories—and connect each comparison explicitly, for example, contrasting the fall in dissatisfaction with the rise in satisfaction. Clearer referencing and more purposeful paragraph development would make the account easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “refurbishment,” “dissatisfied,” “survey,” and “increased,” and you attempt variation with “travellers,” “tourist,” and “people.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “the ratio illustrate,” “were accounted 74000,” and “number of traveller with no response.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “drastictly,” “dissastisfied,” “considerabilly,” and “comparetively,” which reduce precision. “Piecharts” is also not the best description of the visuals as presented. Aim for accurate, standard chart language such as “the proportion of visitors,” “the total stood at,” and “the percentage who were dissatisfied.” Check spelling and use consistent terms for visitors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including a contrast clause beginning “While” and a sentence beginning “Whereas.” However, errors in sentence structure and grammatical control are frequent enough to make some statements difficult to interpret. For example, “the piecharts compares” has subject–verb disagreement, and “the number of visitors … were accounted 74000” has an incorrect verb construction. Articles and plural forms are also inconsistent in “number of traveller with no response,” while “Similarly, people” needs punctuation spacing. Some clauses are incomplete or poorly connected, particularly “Whereas, the number…” without a main contrasting clause. Practise accurate comparison structures, agreement, and complete sentences; for example, “The total stood at 74,000” and “The proportion who were very dissatisfied fell to 5%.”
