Student answer (Band 6.0)
The table compares the number of visitors to Ashdown Museum during the year before and the year after it was refurbished. Pie charts presents the result of surveys asking visitors how satisfied they were with their visit before and after the year it was refurbished. More number of visitors visted the Ashdown Museum after it was refurbished and the satisfcation level of visitors also increased campared to year before refurbishment.
74,000 visitors were recorded during the year before refurbishment but during the year after refurbishment there was increase of 18,000 visitors making annual visits almost equal to hundred thousand.
Along with the increase in the number of visitors, more postive feedback was received from the surveys after the refurbishment. Only 15% of visitors were very satisfied before refurbishment which jumped to 35% showing the postive impacts of refurbishment. 40% of visitors were dissatisfied before the refurbishment which declined expontentially to 15%. Increase was also seen in the satisfied portion of visitors as it moved to 40% from 30%. Decline was also seen the Dissatisfied portion as it decreased from 10% to 5% while 5% visitors choose not to give any feedback during the two periods.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover both the visitor totals and the satisfaction surveys, and your overview correctly identifies that attendance and positive feedback rose after refurbishment. The figures for visitors, very satisfied, satisfied, and dissatisfied visitors are accurately reported, with useful before-and-after comparisons. This meets the task well, while showing some of the stronger feature selection expected at the next level. However, the final comparison mislabels the fall in “very dissatisfied” responses as a decline in the “Dissatisfied portion”; the dissatisfied figure has already been given correctly as falling from 40% to 15%. Also, the overview could more clearly summarise the overall shift from predominantly negative responses to predominantly positive ones. The reference to “almost equal to hundred thousand” is understandable but less precise than simply reporting the total.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction and overview are followed by visitor numbers and then survey results. This gives the reader a coherent route through the information, and phrases such as “Along with the increase” help connect the two sets of data. The comparisons are generally easy to follow. However, some linking is mechanical or repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “increase” and “decline,” and the final sentence combines two separate survey categories in a way that makes the reference unclear. The paragraphing is serviceable, but the overview is embedded in the opening paragraph rather than being developed as a distinct summary of the main patterns. Clearer category references and more varied transitions would improve progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “refurbishment,” “visitors,” “surveys,” “very satisfied,” and “dissatisfied,” so the main information remains understandable. There are also attempts at more descriptive wording, such as “jumped” and “declined,” although some choices are inaccurate or too informal for a formal report. “Declined exponentially” is not an appropriate description of a change from 40% to 15%, and “more number of visitors” is an awkward phrase. Spelling errors such as “visted,” “satisfcation,” “campared,” and “expontentially” are noticeable and reduce precision. The range is adequate for describing the data, but more accurate collocations and careful spelling would make the report more fluent and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast with “but” and a clause beginning “which declined.” Most of the data can still be understood, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “Pie charts presents” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “there was increase of 18,000 visitors” is missing an article. The phrase “Decline was also seen the Dissatisfied portion” lacks a necessary preposition and has an unclear sentence structure. In “while 5% visitors choose,” the noun phrase needs an article and the verb form should match the past-time comparison. These errors do not generally prevent understanding, but more consistent control of agreement, articles, and sentence construction is needed.
