Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You report the main figures accurately: satisfaction categories total 100% in each period, and you correctly identify that visitor numbers rose from 74,000 to 92,000. Your comparison that dissatisfaction was most common before refurbishment, while satisfaction was more common afterwards, gives the response a relevant overall message. However, the opening says the table shows survey results, rather than clearly introducing both the visitor table and satisfaction charts. The overview is also brief and repeats details instead of selecting the strongest changes—for example, the rise in very satisfied visitors from 15% to 35% and the fall in dissatisfied visitors from 40% to 15%. Develop these key comparisons more explicitly to make the summary more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response follows a basic before-and-after order, so readers can generally understand which figures belong to each period. Phrases such as “And than” and “So, the conclusion” attempt to connect the information, but the progression is repetitive and sometimes mechanical. Most of the response is presented as one continuous paragraph, with no clear separation between an introduction, an overview and supporting details. The repeated references to “the visit to the ashdown museum” also interrupt the flow. Organise the answer into clear paragraphs, group related figures together, and use concise links such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile” only where they clarify a comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant basic terms, including “refurbishment,” “visitors,” “satisfied” and “dissatisfied,” and the reader can identify the main subject. However, the vocabulary is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors reduce clarity, including “serveys,” “disssatified” and “there ae opinions.” Some expressions are awkward or imprecise, such as “other 5 give no response” and “mostly people were satisfied.” Use accurate chart language and vary the wording without forcing complex vocabulary: for example, describe percentages as “respondents” or “visitors,” and say that satisfaction “increased” while dissatisfaction “declined.” Proofreading spelling would also make the figures easier to follow.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

Most sentences use simple structures, and the basic meaning is usually recoverable, but errors are frequent and some sentences are difficult to process. For example, “This table describe” has subject–verb disagreement, while “The result before year before refurbishment was that…” has an unclear and faulty structure. Articles and prepositions are often missing or misplaced, as in “after visit to the ashdown museum” and “visitors were year after refurbishment.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent, with long strings of information joined by “and.” Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine comparisons using controlled clauses such as “After refurbishment, the proportion who were satisfied rose to 40%.”
