Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main increase in visitor numbers, from 74,000 to 92,000, and note that satisfaction improved after refurbishment. However, the response only partially reports the survey results: it mentions the 40% dissatisfied before refurbishment and the 30% satisfied, but does not accurately complete the comparison. In particular, “a half visitors who were very satisfied” is not supported by the chart; the figure was 15%, not 50%. The after-refurbishment figures for satisfied and dissatisfied visitors are also not clearly stated, and the final sentence is unfinished. The response is 16 words below the required minimum, which contributes to the limited coverage. Include a concise overview and report the key shifts accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, beginning with an introduction, followed by an overview and then details. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “To begin with,” and “However” help signal relationships between ideas. However, the progression is weakened by unclear or incomplete comparisons, and the response ends mid-sentence at “were doubled and”. Some connectors are also used awkwardly, such as “Whereas” starting a sentence without a complete contrasting clause. Use separate, complete paragraphs for the overview and the main comparisons, and connect each before-and-after figure directly. This would make the information easier to follow and reduce the impression of a list of loosely connected points.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing the charts, including “total number of visitors,” “refurbishment,” “dissatisfied,” and “satisfied.” There is also an attempt to vary wording with “redevelopment” and “reconstruction.” However, several choices are inaccurate or repetitive: “circular chart” is less suitable than “pie chart,” and “converted into satisfied visitors” does not clearly describe a change in survey percentages. “Infirmation” is a spelling error, while repeated use of “visitors” and “after refurbishment” limits flexibility. Choose precise terms for proportions and survey categories, such as “the proportion of dissatisfied respondents fell.” Check spelling and use chart vocabulary consistently.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast introduced by “Whereas” and a clause beginning “who were dissatisfied.” However, errors are frequent and sometimes make the comparisons difficult to interpret. Examples include “the total number of visitors were increased,” where the singular subject requires a singular verb, and “there were a 74000 visitors,” which has an incorrect article and plural construction. “The visitors who very satisfied were doubled” is missing a verb form, and the opening sentence contains faulty punctuation around “however.” Aim first for accurate, complete sentences with correct subject–verb agreement and articles, then add more complex structures. Proofread sentence endings and punctuation.
