Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the main comparison that dissatisfaction fell after refurbishment, and you report several figures accurately: dissatisfaction decreased from 40% to 15%, satisfaction rose from 30% to 40%, and visitor numbers increased from 74,000 to 92,000. However, the response is very incomplete: it omits the very satisfied, very dissatisfied and no-response results, and gives no clear overview of the overall shift in survey results. The comment that the increase was “good for the economy” is not supported by the chart and is not needed for this summary. The response is also 85 words, below the 150-word minimum; the 36 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Add a concise overview and compare the main satisfaction categories to address the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic sequence: you introduce the table and charts, then mention dissatisfaction, satisfaction and visitor totals. This gives the reader some sense of the information being discussed. However, the response has no clear paragraph development beyond the opening and a series of short statements, and the comparisons are not consistently linked. For example, “Before refurbished year 40 percent…” is followed by “Before the year 30 percent…”, without a clear organising principle or overview. The connector “whereas” is also used awkwardly at the start of a sentence. Group the figures into a paragraph about survey results and one about visitor numbers, and use clear links such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile” to show how the figures relate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “visitors,” “surveys,” “satisfied,” “dissatisfied” and “percent,” so the basic subject is understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are unnatural, such as “before refurbished year,” “good achivement” and “good for the ecnomy.” Spelling errors in “achivement,” “disatisfied” and “ecnonomy” (written as “ecn…”) also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, neutral language suited to describing data rather than evaluating it. For example, use “the year before refurbishment” and “visitor numbers increased,” and describe survey categories as “very satisfied” or “very dissatisfied” rather than replacing them with broad phrases such as “not satisfied.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a compound opening sentence using “While,” and the basic meaning of several comparisons can be understood. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors occur frequently in the short response. Examples include “before refurbished year,” which lacks a grammatical time expression, and “40 percent visitors were not satisfied,” where the noun phrase needs an article or possessive determiner. In “after refurbished year their were 15 percent,” the clause structure and subject are faulty; “there were 15 percent” would still need a clear subject such as “visitors.” Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, including the comma before “While” and the lower-case start after a full stop. Practise complete comparison sentences with accurate articles, subjects and verb forms.
