Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main subject and report the visitor totals accurately: attendance rose from 74,000 to 92,000. You also recognise the broad improvement in satisfaction after refurbishment. However, the response is under the required 150 words (133 words; 31 words copied from the prompt are excluded), and the survey data are only partly reported. The text gives 15% as the pre-refurbishment “very satisfied” figure, but says 36% afterwards rather than the chart’s 35%; it does not report the 30% and 40% satisfied figures or the changes in very dissatisfied and no-response responses. The overview is repetitive rather than a concise summary of the key contrasts. Include the main satisfaction categories and accurate figures to address the task more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response follows a basic sequence, moving from an introduction to visitor totals and then survey results, so the reader can identify the broad topic. However, there is no clear paragraphing, and the progression is weakened by repeating the task description in the second sentence: “the table below depicts” the visitor numbers and the pie chart gives survey results. Linking is also mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “And” and “So.” Some references are unclear, as in “the pie chart given below” and “the people that were very satisfied.” Organise the response into a brief introduction, an overview, and a paragraph comparing the figures, using clear references and fewer repetitive connectors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “refurbishment,” “visitors,” “satisfied,” and “dissatisfied,” and the general meaning is usually understandable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, such as “given below,” “given above,” and “less in number.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “vistors,” “thr,” “vistor,” “refurbishmet,” and “befor,” which reduce accuracy and can distract the reader. “Pie chart” is also not the most precise description of the displayed survey charts. Build a more varied set of terms for describing proportions and changes, and proofread spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts longer sentences and uses basic past-tense forms, for example, “there are total 74000 visitors” and “people are more satisfied after refurbishment was done.” However, complex sentence attempts are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences awkward or difficult to follow. Examples include the repeated article in “the the table,” the incomplete construction “the people that were very satisfied before refurbishment was 15%,” and the unclear clause “the people who was dissatisfied.” Subject–verb agreement, sentence boundaries, and article use need attention. Practise writing shorter, complete comparisons first, then combine them with accurate clauses and punctuation.
