Student answer (Band 6.0)
The table provides key information about the numbers of visitors to Ashdown Museum the year before and the year after it was refurbished, and the charts provides information about the result of surveys that were made during the same two periods asking visitors how satisfied they were with their visit. The units are measured in thousends.
Overall, it is shown from the table that the number of visitors during the year after refurbishment has increased. In addition, the charts show that the number of satisfied people and the number of very satisfied people has also increased. Whereas, the number of people who didn't provide a response stayed the same.
It is clear from the charts that there is a very abvious increase in the numbers of very satisfied people, it went from 15 to 35, and same for satisfied people which went from 30 to 40.
In terms of dissatisfied people there is also a clear dicrease from 40 to 15, and also the very dissatisfied numbers went from 10 to 5 which is a very good sign.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main overall changes accurately: visitor numbers rose after refurbishment, satisfaction increased, dissatisfaction fell, and non-response remained unchanged. The figures you give for the satisfaction categories match the chart, and the overview helps address the task. This meets the core requirements well. To make the account more complete and precise, include the visitor totals themselves (74,000 and 92,000), rather than only saying that they increased. Also report the survey figures explicitly as percentages, not as numbers of people, since the chart presents proportions. The final comment that the fall in very dissatisfied responses is “a very good sign” adds an opinion rather than describing the data; a neutral comparison would strengthen the report.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing the satisfaction results. The overview groups the main positive and negative changes, so the reader can follow the broad picture. However, the progression is not fully smooth: the visitor total is mentioned in the overview but is not developed with its actual figures, and the final paragraph focuses only on dissatisfaction. Some linking is awkward or mechanical, particularly “Whereas” beginning a sentence after a full stop and repeated use of “also.” Organise the details into a clearer comparison of before and after, and use links such as “by contrast” or “while” within complete sentences. This would make the relationships between the figures easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “increased,” “stayed the same,” and “decrease,” and the meaning is generally clear. However, the range is somewhat repetitive, with repeated references to “people” and “numbers,” and several choices are imprecise for a chart report. The survey figures are percentages, so “proportion” or “percentage of visitors” is more accurate than “number of people.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “thousends,” “abvious,” and “dicrease,” which reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. Aim for concise, formal reporting language and check spelling carefully. More precise trend vocabulary would help you describe the data without relying on repeated forms of “increase” and “decrease.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, and most of the information remains understandable. Some grammatical errors are evident, especially in agreement and sentence construction. For example, “the charts provides” should be “the charts provide,” while “the number of satisfied people and the number of very satisfied people has” requires “have” because the two subjects are joined. “Whereas” is used as a sentence fragment after a full stop; connect it to the preceding clause or use “Meanwhile.” The opening sentence is also long and would be clearer if divided. Continue using a mix of structures, but check subject–verb agreement and make sure each sentence has a complete main clause. These corrections would improve control without sacrificing complexity.
