Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main comparison: visitor numbers rose from 74,000 to 92,000, and satisfaction improved after refurbishment. You also report several survey figures accurately, including 40% dissatisfied before and 40% satisfied after. However, the overview is vague (“some progress”) and the account omits the after-refurbishment figure for dissatisfaction’s counterpart, very dissatisfied visitors, and does not clearly compare the two periods across all categories. The final sentence says dissatisfaction declined by around 15%, but does not distinguish dissatisfied (40% to 15%) from very dissatisfied (10% to 5%). The response is 146 words, below the 150-word minimum; the 20 words copied from the prompt are excluded. Add a clearer overview and complete the key comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the two years. This helps the reader follow the broad sequence. However, progression is limited because the report mostly lists figures period by period rather than making direct comparisons between corresponding categories. Linking expressions such as “Firstly,” “However,” and “secondly” are used, but some connections are unclear or mechanical; for example, “in contrast” does not clearly identify which figures are being contrasted. Punctuation and spacing also interrupt flow, as in “Firstly,Year” and “satisfied.in contrast.” Group the positive and negative responses and compare before with after, using clear links such as “whereas” and “by comparison.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “visitors,” “surveys,” “dissatisfied,” and “refurbishment,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning less clear. “The charts present the surveys result” would be more natural as “the charts show the survey results,” while “people interest” does not accurately describe satisfaction levels. There are also spelling errors such as “arrgments,” “responed,” and “unstisfied,” and “blossomed” is too informal and imprecise for an academic report. Use precise terms such as “satisfaction ratings,” “respondents,” and “the proportion of dissatisfied visitors.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and longer sentence forms, and the main message can usually be understood. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, particularly in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and punctuation. For example, “The table illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, while “during the year before and after the refurbished” uses an incorrect grammatical form. “Are they were satisfied” is also an ungrammatical question structure within the sentence. Capitalisation after commas and full stops is inconsistent, and some sentences run together, as in “very satisfied.in contrast.” These recurring errors sometimes make the reader pause. Practise accurate reporting patterns such as “The table illustrates…” and “The proportion of visitors who were satisfied rose…” before adding more complex clauses.
