Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the two main subjects—the visitor total and satisfaction surveys—and note that attendance rose after refurbishment and that non-response stayed unchanged. However, the report is incomplete and only minimally addresses the task: it stops after beginning to describe the pre-refurbishment dissatisfaction figure, with no completed comparison or account of the post-refurbishment results. The overview’s claim of a “great variation” is vague, and the only specific figure, 40% dissatisfied before refurbishment, is accurate but not developed. The response also falls short of the required 150 words. To improve, complete the summary and report the key contrasts: visitors increased from 74,000 to 92,000, while satisfaction rose and dissatisfaction fell substantially.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence introduces the visuals, followed by an overview and then a detail paragraph beginning with “The year before the refurbishment.” This gives the reader some sense of the intended structure. However, the final paragraph is unfinished, so the information has no clear progression or conclusion, and the comparison between the two periods is not developed. Linking is also limited; “Overall” is useful, but the long opening and overview sentences contain several ideas without clear separation. Use complete paragraphs for the introduction, overview and key details, then connect comparisons explicitly with phrases such as “by contrast” and “whereas.” Ensure every paragraph is completed.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “refurbishment,” “satisfaction,” “visitors” and “survey,” and the meaning of the main topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate or unnatural: “tourists” and “traveller” are less suitable than “visitors” for this chart, “observers” does not fit the context, and “dissatisfication” is misspelled. Phrases such as “amount of traveller” and “great variation was observed” also sound imprecise. Aim for accurate, consistent terms and collocations, for example “the number of visitors,” “visitor satisfaction increased,” and “the proportion who were dissatisfied fell.” This would make the report clearer and more appropriate to an academic summary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts longer sentence forms, but control is uneven and the range remains limited. In the opening, “illustrate the data that how many tourists visit” has an incorrect clause structure; write “show how many people visited.” In the overview, “table showed that amount of traveller was increased” contains problems with articles, number and verb form, while “there was a great variation was observed” combines two incompatible structures. The final sentence, “The year before the refurbishment showed that about 40% of dissatisfication besides,” is incomplete and leaves the relationship between ideas unclear. Practise forming direct, complete sentences with accurate past-tense reporting, such as “Visitor numbers increased from 74,000 to 92,000.” Use a full stop rather than joining several claims in one sentence.
