Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You report most survey figures accurately, including the shift from 40% dissatisfied before refurbishment to 15% afterwards, and the rise in very satisfied responses from 15% to 35%. However, the response does not report the table’s visitor totals of 74,000 and 92,000, so a major part of the task is omitted. The overview is also unclear and partly inaccurate: “an increase in 10% in people's satisfaction” does not match the combined satisfied categories, which rise from 45% to 75%, while the dissatisfied categories fall from 50% to 20%. The main comparisons are present, but the overall picture needs to be stated clearly and should include the increase in visitor numbers.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic, understandable sequence: it describes the pre-refurbishment survey, then the post-refurbishment results, and ends with an overall comment. This gives the reader a general sense of progression. However, there is no distinct overview paragraph, and the opening sentence promises information about visitor numbers without actually presenting those figures. Linking is limited, with repeated patterns such as “followed by” and “while,” and the final sentence combines several comparisons in a way that makes the overall message difficult to follow. Organise the response into an introduction, a concise overview, and two detail sections, and use clear references to distinguish satisfaction from dissatisfaction.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary such as “refurbishment,” “survey,” “dissatisfied,” and “very satisfied,” which allows the reader to understand the subject and most comparisons. However, the range is repetitive: “people” and “chart” recur, and phrases such as “the highest percent of people now were satisfied” are awkward and imprecise. “Increase in 10% in people's satisfaction” also does not express the data clearly. Use more precise terms for the groups and changes, and distinguish a percentage-point change from a percentage increase. This would make the report more concise and natural while retaining the appropriate formal style.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the main figures are generally understandable. However, control is uneven in longer constructions. For example, “Chart showing the survey … shows” lacks a clear article and has an awkward clause structure, while “the very dissatisfied and give no response” does not maintain a consistent grammatical form. There are also punctuation and sentence-boundary problems, including “35%.15%,” and the final sentence is difficult to parse because several comparisons are joined together. Aim for complete, clearly structured sentences, check agreement and parallel forms, and use full stops and commas to separate each comparison.
