Student answer (Band 7.0)

The charts illustrate the total number of visitors visited to Ashdown Museum before and after the renovation and showed the level of satisfaction during the same two period.

Overall, number of visitors considerably increased after the refurbishment. Although proportion of dissatisfaction decreased, the proportion of fully satisfaction increased.

Visitors who were fully satisfied with it stood at 15% and 10% of visitors were fully dissatisfied only. While 5% of visitors did not give any response. In contrast, after the renovation, not only satisfaction increased to 40% but also visitors with full satisfaction surged to 35%. 15% of visitors were dissatisfied. Moreover, fully dissatisfied and no response showed identical figures, at 5% each.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The response covers the key information in both the visitor table and satisfaction charts, and its overview identifies the main changes: attendance rose after refurbishment, while dissatisfaction fell and satisfaction increased. The figures reported are accurate, including the rise from 74,000 to 92,000 and the shifts in the survey categories. The comparison is supported with relevant details from both periods, so the main features are clearly selected and reported. To make the account more fully developed, clarify that the two satisfaction categories together became the clear majority after refurbishment, while dissatisfaction and strong dissatisfaction both declined. This would sharpen the overall comparison rather than relying mainly on separate category figures. The response otherwise maintains a clear focus on the task.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The information is arranged in a clear sequence: an introduction and overview are followed by attendance figures and then survey results. Paragraphing helps distinguish the table from the charts, and signposts such as “Overall,” “Regarding visitors,” and “Turning to surveys” make the progression easy to follow. Contrast is also signalled with “In contrast.” Some linking is slightly mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “before” and “after” and the sentence beginning “While 5%...” as a fragment-like continuation. For smoother cohesion, integrate that detail into the preceding sentence and use more varied comparisons, such as “by contrast” or “whereas.” Overall, the organisation is logical and the reader can follow the comparisons without difficulty.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

The response uses a suitable range of task-related vocabulary, including “refurbishment,” “proportion,” “dissatisfied,” and “surged,” and the meaning remains clear. There is some awareness of more precise reporting language, especially when describing the changes in satisfaction. However, several word choices or collocations are awkward: “visitors visited to” is redundant and unnatural, “fully satisfaction” is not the correct form, and “total 74,000 of visitors” is imprecise. “Drastically” also overstates a rise that is better described neutrally. These slips show that the range is adequate but not consistently controlled. Aim for natural collocations such as “the number of visitors,” “very satisfied,” and “rose considerably,” and distinguish “satisfaction” from “satisfied.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

There is a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast structure “Although proportion of dissatisfaction decreased...” and the paired construction “not only... but also...”. Most relationships between ideas are understandable, and errors rarely prevent communication. Some grammatical inaccuracies remain, however. The opening has a faulty construction in “the total number of visitors visited,” and “during the same two period” has an incorrect plural form. Articles are also missing in “Overall, number of visitors” and “Although proportion,” while “While 5% of visitors did not give any response” is not a complete sentence in this context. Work on articles, agreement, and complete sentence structure, while retaining the complex forms you already attempt.
