Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You include the two visitor totals accurately: 74,000 before and 92,000 after refurbishment, and you attempt to report survey percentages. However, the satisfaction figures are repeatedly confused. Before refurbishment, 30% were satisfied and 40% dissatisfied, while after it, 40% were satisfied and 15% dissatisfied; your account assigns several values to the wrong categories. You also do not clearly summarise the main overall change: visitor numbers and satisfaction both increased, while dissatisfaction fell. The response is under the required 150 words, which limits the detail and comparisons you can provide. To improve, give a clear overview first, then report the key figures accurately and compare the two periods.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.0
There is a basic attempt to separate the information into short paragraphs, and the final lines present the visitor totals in a readable way. However, the response does not develop in a clear sequence from an overview to the survey details and then the visitor numbers. Phrases such as “And the after the refurbishment” and “In the all chart” do not make the relationships between points clear, while the second paragraph combines several percentages without showing which period or satisfaction category each belongs to. Organise the response into a brief introduction and overview, followed by a paragraph comparing satisfaction before and after, and a final comparison of visitor totals. Use clear links such as “before refurbishment” and “by contrast” consistently.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “visitors,” “refurbishment,” “percent,” and the satisfaction categories, so the reader can identify the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms make the meaning difficult to follow, as in “the chart shows the illustrates” and “no responsing.” Spelling and word-form problems such as “museam” and “partsb” also reduce clarity. Aim to use standard chart language accurately rather than repeating “shows” and “of.” For example, describe figures as percentages of visitors, and use “no response” as the category label. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish increases in visitor numbers from changes in satisfaction.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The response attempts to form sentences about both periods, but most sentence structures are incomplete or difficult to interpret. For example, “The number of the visitors during the year of refurbishment 74000” has no clear verb linking the subject and figure, and “the 40 percent of the very dissatisfied for the 15 percent” lacks a grammatical relationship between the values. Articles, prepositions, and word order are also frequently problematic, as in “the after the refurbishment the shows.” The writing relies mainly on fragments and does not demonstrate a controlled range of sentence forms. Practise complete comparison sentences, such as “Visitor numbers rose from 74,000 to 92,000,” and check that each sentence has a clear subject and verb.
