Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The chart illustrates the number of vistors to Ashdown Museum during the year before and the year after refurbished.

Overall there are positive feedbacks of vistors after refurbishment as many people are satisfied by this action at Ashdown Museum, as before there were more of the negative feedbacks and also fewer vistors were to attain to the museum before than in after refurbistment there is quiet alot growth in vistors.

Firstly if we compare number of vistors than year before refurbishment there were only 74k vistors, while the year after refurbishment had a massive growth at 92k vistors a increase of 18 thousand vistors. People satisfaction varies in five categories as highest being very satisfied and lowest being no response. Year after refurbishment there were 35% very satisfied vistors, than in before there were only 15%. Also just satisfied vistors also increased at 40% after vs 30% before refurbishment of Ashdown Museum. Now as negative feedbacks of 40% being dissatisfied by before, than in after with just only 15%. However 10% being very dissatisfied by before musem than in after with just only 5% being very dissatisfied. Lastly the no response area remained the same at 5% in both before and after of refurbishment of Ashdown Museum.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You cover the main features and report the figures accurately: visitors rose from 74,000 to 92,000, satisfaction increased (very satisfied from 15% to 35%, and satisfied from 30% to 40%), while dissatisfaction fell. You also note that no response remained at 5%. The overview clearly identifies the broad improvement in visitor numbers and feedback, so the response addresses the task well. To strengthen it further, make the overview more concise and precise: “positive feedbacks” is vague, and the claim that “many people are satisfied” could explicitly summarise the combined shift toward satisfaction. The description of the satisfaction categories is otherwise well supported by relevant comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph comparing visitor numbers and survey results. The sequence from visitor totals to positive ratings, negative ratings, and no response is easy to follow. Linking phrases such as “Overall,” “Firstly,” “However,” and “Lastly” help signal progression. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear, particularly “Now as negative feedbacks of 40% being dissatisfied by before,” which makes the comparison harder to process. Repeated references to “Ashdown Museum” and “before refurbishment” also make the writing less smooth. Use clearer comparison structures and pronouns where the reference is unmistakable, and group related satisfaction figures into more fluent sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main comparisons, and you attempt some varied expressions, including “massive growth” and “varies in five categories.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive. “Positive feedbacks” is not natural in this context; “visitor satisfaction improved” would be more precise. “Vistors” is repeatedly misspelled, and “refurbistment” and “musem” also contain spelling errors. Phrases such as “a increase” and “just only” show limited control of natural expression. Aim for accurate, task-specific language such as “the proportion of visitors,” “rose to,” and “fell to,” rather than relying on repeated forms of “vistors” and “after.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex comparisons, for example using “while” to contrast the visitor totals and “as” to introduce satisfaction categories. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and several sentence patterns are faulty. In “during the year before and the year after refurbished,” the passive construction is incomplete; write “before and after the museum was refurbished.” The sentence beginning “Overall there are positive feedbacks” has an unclear structure, while “a increase of 18 thousand” has an article error. Comparisons such as “than in before there were only 15%” also need a complete, correctly formed clause. Practise accurate comparative sentences and check articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries; this will make your range easier to understand.
