Student answer (Band 5.5)

The table compares the number of visitors to Ashdown Museum before and after its refurbishment, while the pie-chart illustrate visitors satifaction levels during the same periods. Overall, the museum attracted more visitors after the refurbishment. Visitor satisfaction also improved considerably, as the proportions of satified visitors increased while dissatifaction declined. Before the refurbishment, the museum received 74,000 visitors. This figure rose to 92,000 in the follwing year. The proportion of very satisfied visitors increased from 15% to 35% . Similarly, the percentage of satisfied visitors rose from 30% to 40%. Before the refurbishment, the visitors dissatifaction decreased from 40% to 15%. Very dissatified decreased from 10% to 5%. Thus, no respone is constant from 5% to 5%. Additionally, before and after refurbishment, is particularly increased or decreased the visitors is very satisfied and another is satisfied increased it mean this before year and after year increased. so, it is all the pie-chart Ashdown Museum visitors is satisfied.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover both the visitor totals and the satisfaction surveys, and your overview correctly identifies the main changes: attendance rose from 74,000 to 92,000, while satisfaction improved overall. The figures you give for each category are accurate, including the unchanged 5% with no response. This meets the task well, and the accurate selection of key comparisons is a strength. However, the final sentences beginning “Additionally” repeat the general point about satisfaction without adding a clear comparison, and the phrase “it is all the pie-chart… satisfied” is difficult to interpret. To make the response more complete and precise, replace this repetition with a concise summary of the shift from dissatisfaction to satisfaction and ensure every comparison is clearly expressed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction and overview are followed by figures from before and after refurbishment. Linking words such as “Overall,” “Similarly,” and “Thus” help signal relationships between points. However, progression becomes unclear in the final section. “Additionally” introduces a sentence that is difficult to follow, and the closing phrase repeats the satisfaction point rather than providing a clear conclusion. Some links are also not logically suited to the information: “Thus” does not clearly explain why the unchanged response rate follows from the preceding figures. Group the satisfaction categories into clear comparisons, use transitions only where they show the intended relationship, and remove the repetitive ending to create a more consistent progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “refurbishment,” and “increased,” and the reader can generally understand the comparisons. However, spelling errors such as “satifaction,” “satified,” “dissatifaction,” and “respone” are noticeable, while “pie-chart” is not the most accurate description of the charts. Some wording is also imprecise or repetitive, particularly “the visitors dissatifaction decreased” and the final phrase about visitors being satisfied. These choices limit clarity and control. Use accurate forms such as “visitor satisfaction” and “the proportion of dissatisfied visitors,” and check spelling carefully. A wider range of precise reporting verbs and category labels would make the account more natural and concise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, and several sentences communicate the data clearly, such as “This figure rose to 92,000 in the following year.” However, grammatical control is inconsistent, especially in the final sentences. For example, “Additionally, before and after refurbishment, is particularly increased or decreased the visitors…” lacks a clear subject and has an incorrect verb construction, making the meaning hard to follow. “Thus, no response is constant from 5% to 5%” also uses an unsuitable tense and structure for describing a stable figure. Build each comparison around a clear subject and verb—for example, “The proportion reporting no response remained at 5%”—and check sentence boundaries and punctuation.
