Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the topic and report the visitor totals of 74,000 before and 92,000 after refurbishment, so some relevant information is included. However, the response does not summarise the main survey results: it gives no satisfaction percentages and does not explain the key shift from mostly dissatisfied visitors before refurbishment to mostly satisfied visitors afterwards. The statement that the difference was “big” is vague, and the overview that satisfaction was “increasing and decreasing” does not specify what changed. The response is also 51 words below the required minimum, leaving the task substantially incomplete. To improve, include a clear overview and compare the main satisfaction categories with accurate figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the table and charts, then mentions the visitor totals and survey results. This gives the reader some sense of the task’s two sources. However, there is no clear overall progression from an overview to selected comparisons, and the final sentence largely repeats the earlier description of the charts rather than adding information. Connections between ideas are limited, while phrases such as “during and after the year” and “during the similar two years” make the time relationships difficult to follow. Organise the response into a short introduction, an overview of the main trends, and a paragraph comparing the figures before and after refurbishment.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “refurbished,” “surveys,” and “satisfaction,” and the reader can generally recognise the subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices are inaccurate or repetitive. “Travellers” is not the right term for people visiting a museum; “visitors” is more precise. “How agree they were with their travel” does not express satisfaction with a museum visit, and “a big difference instead of before refurbishment” is an unclear comparison. Spelling errors such as “Ashdowm” also reduce accuracy. Build a small set of precise terms for reporting survey categories and changes, such as “proportion,” “rose,” and “fell,” and use them in accurate comparisons.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts several complete sentences and uses basic present-tense reporting forms, for example, “The table below illustrates” and “The pie chart show.” However, the sentence structures are mostly simple, and errors in agreement and sentence construction are frequent enough to make some statements difficult to interpret. In “The pie chart show,” the singular subject requires “shows.” The sentence beginning “The total number of travellers…” combines the before-and-after figures in an awkward structure, while “The chart illustrates the increasing and decreasing about…” is not grammatically complete in its current form. Practise forming clear comparison sentences, such as “Visitor numbers rose from 74,000 to 92,000,” and check subject–verb agreement and punctuation.
