Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the main subject and report the visitor totals accurately: attendance rose from 74,000 to 92,000. You also mention some satisfaction figures, including 15% very satisfied and 30% satisfied before refurbishment. However, the response is incomplete: it does not report the after-refurbishment satisfaction results or clearly compare the overall shift from dissatisfaction to satisfaction. The overview is also unclear and partly inaccurate; for example, dissatisfaction did not increase after refurbishment, and the “no response” share stayed at 5% in both years. The response is 122 words, below the required 150, which limits the detail provided. To improve, give a clear overview and select the key figures from both survey periods.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response, with an opening, an overview, and a paragraph beginning “To begin with.” This gives the reader some sense of structure, and phrases such as “On another hand” signal a comparison. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the overview makes unclear claims and the final paragraph stops after describing only part of the first survey. Linking phrases are sometimes inaccurate or do not connect ideas logically, while the opening combines the table and chart information in a confusing way. Use separate, purposeful paragraphs for the introduction, overview, and key comparisons, and connect the before-and-after figures directly so the report develops in a clear sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “refurbishment,” “visitors,” “satisfied,” and “dissatisfied,” and you attempt to describe change with “rose sharply.” This shows a basic range suited to the topic. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “visitors feedback,” “how much satisfied,” “maintained highest,” and “the very dissatisfied had been rose.” Spelling and word forms, including “vist” and “responsed,” also reduce clarity. Aim for precise chart language and use the survey categories as labels—for example, “the proportion who were very satisfied increased.” This would make comparisons easier to understand and reduce repetition of general words such as “year” and “museum.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including a comparison of visitor totals, but control is inconsistent and errors frequently make the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “The table demonstrate,” where subject–verb agreement is incorrect, and “the year after it was refurbished maintained highest,” which lacks a clear grammatical subject and comparison. Verb forms are also problematic in “the dissatisfied had been increases” and “the very dissatisfied had been rose.” Articles, sentence boundaries, and punctuation are often missing or misplaced, as in the opening, which runs several clauses together. Practise accurate simple past forms and build comparisons with clear subjects and verbs before attempting longer structures.
