Student answer (Band 5.5)
The table demonstrates the numbers of visitors who vistied the Ashdown Museum during the year before and the year after it was altered. While the charts illustrate the result of surveys asking visitors how satisfied they were before the alteration and during their visit now.
Overall, there are 74,000 people who visited the Ashdown Museum during the year before and 92,000 people visited the place after it was refurbished. Which indicates the number of vistiors rose after the alteration of museum.
On the one hand, result of survey before the wear and tear showed that there were 15% people who satisfied and a large proportion of 40% people was dissatisfied, whereas 30% people were very dissatisfied and there were only 5% visitors who did not responded to survey. However, after the alteration of the museum 35% people were very satisfied which is more than the last survey and 40% visitors were satisfied. Also the ratio of dissatisfied visitors decreased and still there were 5% visitors who denied for the survey.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main increase in attendance, from 74,000 to 92,000, and note that satisfaction improved after refurbishment. However, several survey figures are misreported: before refurbishment, 15% were very satisfied and 30% satisfied, while 40% were dissatisfied and 10% very dissatisfied. Your response reverses or mislabels some of these categories, including calling 30% very dissatisfied. After refurbishment, you report the 35% very satisfied and 40% satisfied figures correctly, but omit the 15% dissatisfied and 5% very dissatisfied figures. The overview is also limited, and the response is 148 words, below the required 150. Report the key shifts accurately and include a concise overview of the overall improvement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph comparing the survey results. This gives the reader a coherent overall arrangement, and contrast markers such as “whereas” and “However” help signal comparisons. Some links are less effective, though. The overview begins with “Which indicates,” creating a sentence fragment, and “On the one hand” suggests a contrast that is not completed with a corresponding “on the other hand.” The final sentence also combines several points without clearly distinguishing the satisfaction categories. Use complete sentences and organise the survey figures in a consistent before-and-after sequence; this would make the progression clearer and cohesion less mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion,” “dissatisfied,” “satisfied,” and “decreased,” so the topic is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or awkward for describing the data. “Altered” and “wear and tear” do not accurately express refurbishment in this context, while “denied for the survey” is not a natural way to describe non-response. There are also spelling errors in “vistied” and “vistiors,” and “responded” is used where the noun “response” is needed. Choose precise terms for the satisfaction categories and use standard chart language such as “accounted for” or “the proportion of visitors.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some complex sentence forms, particularly when comparing results with “whereas” and “However,” but control is uneven. “Which indicates the number of vistiors rose” is a sentence fragment because the relative clause has no main clause; connect it to the preceding sentence or write it as a complete sentence. In “there were 15% people who satisfied,” the construction is incomplete, and “40% people was dissatisfied” has an agreement error. The opening sentence also shifts awkwardly between “during the year before and the year after” and “now.” These errors sometimes make relationships between figures harder to follow. Practise complete clauses, agreement with plural “people/visitors,” and consistent past-tense reporting.
