Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the visitor total rising from 74,000 to 92,000 and report two relevant satisfaction figures for the year before refurbishment: 40% dissatisfied and 30% satisfied. However, the response addresses only part of the task. It gives no figures for the year after refurbishment, omits the very satisfied, very dissatisfied and no-response categories, and provides no clear overview of the main changes in satisfaction. The description of the increase as a “slight surge” is also not a useful summary of the key pattern. The response is below the required 150 words, which contributes to its limited coverage. To improve, include a concise overview and compare the main satisfaction categories across both years, using accurate figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: the opening introduces the visuals, the next paragraph discusses visitor numbers, and a final section begins to describe satisfaction. However, progression is limited because the response stops after comparing only two categories from the first survey. Linking phrases such as “Firstly,” “on the other hand,” and “furthermore” are present, but some are awkward or do not clearly connect the information; “Firstly to begin with” is repetitive. The satisfaction section would be easier to follow if it grouped the two years and compared categories in a consistent order. Use separate paragraphs for the overview, visitor totals, and survey results, with clear comparisons between before and after.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for communicating the basic topic, and terms such as “refurbishment,” “visitors,” “satisfaction,” and “survey” are relevant. There is also some attempt to vary wording with “renovation” and “surge.” However, several choices are imprecise or repetitive: “guests” is less suitable than “visitors” for a museum, and “the two following two pie charts” is cumbersome. “A slight surge” is not the most precise description of the increase in visitor numbers. Repeated use of “before renovation” also limits range. Aim for accurate, neutral chart language, such as “visitor numbers rose” and “respondents,” and use the satisfaction labels from the chart consistently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some longer sentence forms, including the opening sentence and the contrast introduced by “on the other hand,” but control is uneven. The opening is a run-on structure, and the phrase “the number of guests visited after renovation” is missing a grammatical link, such as “who visited.” There are also agreement and punctuation problems in “the two following two pie charts depicts” and “which which was about 40%.” The sentence beginning “before it was renovated” shifts awkwardly between past and present forms, while several sentences lack full stops or clear clause boundaries. Practise writing shorter, complete comparisons first, then combine them with accurate conjunctions and consistent past-tense reporting.
