Student answer (Band 5.5)
Medical research is very important in modern era because it helps people to find new medicines or treatments. Some people believe that medical researches are funded by private companies ,whil other think it is carried by private companies, individuals or government. In my opinion, both private and government companies should fund research.
On the one hand, Private company play vital role in medical research. They have money, enough resources and modern technology. They can develop new medicines and treatments. They can also arrange funds for finding solution for serious issues or problems. for Example if we talk about COVID 19 so medical companies and government contribute and develop new vaccine that helps people to live healthier life.
On the other hand, government is also responsible for mediacl research because healthcare is very important for every person, not only rich people but also for poor families who cannot afford expensive treatments. It is also helpful for those medical researchers who are working to find affordable treatments for different kind of diseases.
i believe that if medical researches funded only by private companies, they may be more focused on profits. However, Government funding can help to focus on public health or welfare. Proper financial support is necessary to improve the quality of healthcare services. It also allows doctor to understand health problems more clearly and provide better treatments to patients.
In conclusion, both private and government companies should work together to fund medical research, this will help develop better treatments and make more affordable healthcare for each and every person.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is identifiable: you recommend that private companies and government work together, and you give relevant reasons concerning resources, public access and profit motives. The COVID-19 vaccine example also supports the discussion. However, the task asks whether research should be carried out by private companies, individuals or government, and the response does not clearly consider individuals as a possible funder or researcher. Some points are also asserted rather than fully explained—for example, the claim that private funding may prioritise profit is not illustrated with a consequence or example. Develop each main reason with a clearer explanation and address all three options explicitly to make the response more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs, a further paragraph explaining the concern about profit, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the main stages. However, the progression is not always smooth: the paragraph beginning “i believe” introduces a related argument after the two-sided discussion without a clear transition, and the conclusion repeats the central recommendation rather than drawing together the reasons. Some connections between sentences are also abrupt, particularly in the first body paragraph. Use clearer topic sentences and link each example directly to the point it supports.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “medical research,” “treatments,” “affordable,” “public health,” and “profits.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “financial support” and “healthcare services.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. For example, “medical researches” is not the natural form, “find solution” is awkward, and “live healthier life” is imprecise in this context. Spelling errors such as “whil” and “mediacl,” along with inconsistent capitalisation, also reduce accuracy. Build a wider set of precise research and funding expressions, and check spelling and collocations during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple sentences and more complex structures, including a conditional clause in “if medical researches funded only by private companies” and a relative clause in “researchers who are working to find affordable treatments.” Meaning is generally understandable, but errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms occur across the response. For instance, “if medical researches funded” needs a passive verb form, while “Private company play” has a subject–verb agreement problem. Articles and plurals are also inconsistent, as in “a better treatments” (in the final sentence’s construction) and “different kind of diseases.” Punctuation and sentence boundaries need attention too: the final sentence joins two independent ideas with a comma. Practise accurate passive forms, agreement, articles and punctuation while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
