Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response is relevant and recognises that research may be funded by private organisations, governments and individual doctors. However, the task asks you to give your opinion about which of these should carry out research, and your position is not clearly established until the conclusion, where you say it should continue through any of the three sources. The body mainly describes who conducts research and why funding can be difficult; it does not compare the options or explain which arrangement you consider best. For example, the point about developing countries’ limited funds is relevant, but its implications for private or individual funding are not developed. State a clear preference in the introduction and support it with specific reasons and examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay has a recognisable introduction, body and conclusion, and it moves from the importance of research to possible funding sources. Some linking expressions, including “To begin with,” “on the other hand” and “To conclude,” help signal stages in the response. However, progression within the body is limited: government funding, private partnerships and doctors’ thesis research are listed, rather than connected through a clear comparison or argument. The contrast signalled by “on the other hand” is not fully explained, and the final point about individual doctors feels abrupt. Develop one main idea per paragraph and use references and transitions to show how each point supports your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, such as “chronic diseases,” “research facilities,” “funding” and “public facilities,” which makes the subject clear. There is also an attempt to use more formal expressions, including “takes initiatives” and “in association with.” However, the range is limited by repeated wording such as “medical research,” “many” and “different,” and several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “recuire,” “resourses,” “proc erss,” “assosiation” and “there thesis.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “fund money in medical research” and “conducted in full capacity of government.” Build a more precise range of collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response attempts both simple and longer sentences, including a contrastive structure beginning “In developing countries” and a concluding sentence with “In order to reduce these sufferings.” Meaning is generally understandable, but errors recur in sentence boundaries, agreement, articles and possessives. For example, “since the last few decades” begins a sentence with a lowercase letter and has an unsuitable time expression; “there has been several medical conditions” has subject–verb disagreement; and “for there thesis” uses the wrong possessive form. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing capitals after full stops and spaces before punctuation. Practise accurate sentence boundaries and check agreement and possessives when proofreading.
