Nowadays, many medical research projects are funded by private companies. In your opinion, do you think that research should be carried by private companies, individuals or government?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Recently, private industries are coming forward to support the medical research by providing grants. I believe that carrying out research is not only government responsibility, it is the duty of every single individual living in this world to make the world better place by keep improving in the field by conducting research or discovering new things into their stream.
On one hand, to carry out any medical research it takes a lot of money, effort and time. Therefore, performing the medical research by government is feasible as they have man power, funds and space to carry out the research. For example, the medical research which goes on for years such as the epidemiological once's could not be perform by a individual. so such research should be perform by government.
On other hand, research which does not require big space or lot of funds can be perform by few people should be carry out by common individuals. Further, the private companies who has funds and space they can also conduct reserach to understand different aspect of product. For example, during covid-19 pzifer was a pharmacological industry who conducted the research to develop the vaccine for covid-19. At the same moment, government was also looking for the effective vaccine. The pzifer company develop their own vaccine before the government could develop and helped in the prevention of spreading the covid-19.
In conclusion, in my opinion it is the responsibility of every citizen who can help the nation to be a better place by doing whatever they can by conducted different types of research they can do.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address the question by arguing that responsibility should be shared among governments, private companies and individuals, and you support this position with relevant examples, including long-term epidemiological research and Pfizer’s vaccine development. The response therefore covers the main parts of the task. However, the discussion is uneven: the government’s role is explained through its resources, while the role of individuals is asserted more than demonstrated, and the conclusion does not clearly weigh the three options. The Pfizer example is relevant, but the claim that the company developed its vaccine before the government is not clearly explained or connected to why private funding is preferable. To strengthen the response, clarify which group should lead overall and develop each supporting reason with a precise explanation or example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs signposted by “On one hand” and “On other hand,” and a conclusion. This makes the main line of argument easy to follow. Some connections and references, however, are not fully clear. For instance, “At the same moment” does not accurately express the relationship between Pfizer’s work and the government’s efforts, and “they” in the final body paragraph could refer to either private companies or individuals. The conclusion also repeats the broad idea of shared responsibility without drawing together the points made in the body. Use more precise linking expressions and refer explicitly to the relevant group or idea; a clearer progression from each group’s role to your final judgement would make the organisation more effective.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “medical research,” “grants,” “epidemiological,” “funds,” and “vaccine,” which helps communicate the subject. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “pharmacological industry.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “support the medical research,” “big space,” and “different aspect of product.” Spelling errors such as “reserach” and “pzifer” also reduce accuracy and polish. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the main ideas, but they limit precision and naturalness. Build accuracy by learning common research-related collocations and checking spelling, and choose more exact terms when describing the scale, purpose and outcomes of research.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “research which does not require big space or lot of funds” and a longer sentence explaining the government’s resources. The main ideas are generally understandable, but errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction occur across the response. Examples include “by keep improving,” “could not be perform,” “who has funds,” and “the company develop.” Some sentences also become difficult to control when several ideas are joined, particularly the opening sentence. Practise forming accurate clauses with modal verbs and passive constructions, and check subject–verb agreement and articles. Breaking long sentences into clearer units would help you show grammatical range while maintaining accuracy.
