Student answer (Band 7.0)
The thought of encouraging younger people to practice volunteer service in their community during their leisure time is widely accepted. I completely agree with this view because unpaid social service not only helps them acquire life skills, but also instills a great sense of civic responsibility.
To commence with, the dominant reason behind encouraging community service in youngsters is that it helps them gain critical skills such as communication and interpersonal skills. Since while doing community service, they come across people from a variety of backgrounds, it gives them valuable exposure which can not be learned in any classroom or home. While performing social service they also get an insight of different fields and may find their field of interest in which they can pursue future academics. For instance, youth volunteering at a local hospital will get an opportunity to get immense exposure in healthcare which helps them to figure out if they want to take medicine as a profession.
Furthermore, serving the community fosters social responsibility in the younger generation. This is because they observe the challenges faced by the society and develop an empathy towards the citizens. They learn how the society can progress by selfless contributions of the members and start prioritizing the actions which benefit the society as a whole. Undoubtedly, this experience seeds the desire to uplift them as an individual and the society as well.
To conclude, in my opinion as well, the practical experience which is gained and the social responsibility which is learnt by doing unpaid community service makes it a strongly recommended practice in the younger population.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response is completely off-topic. The prompt asks for an opinion on who should fund medical research (private companies, individuals, or government), but the essay discusses the benefits of youth volunteering in the community. As the response fails to address the specific task question entirely, it cannot be assessed on the development of ideas related to the prompt. While the writing is coherent and grammatically sound, the failure to address the task requirements is a critical issue. In an official IELTS examination, this would result in a very low score for Task Achievement as the content is irrelevant to the prompt provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
Despite the content being off-topic, the essay itself is well-structured. It follows a logical progression with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', and 'To conclude' are used effectively to link ideas. The paragraphing is logical, and the flow of information within the paragraphs is smooth. If the content had been relevant to the prompt, this would have been a strong performance in terms of coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The vocabulary used is generally appropriate and demonstrates a sufficient range for the task. Phrases such as 'civic responsibility', 'interpersonal skills', 'valuable exposure', and 'selfless contributions' show a good command of language. There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary, and the word choice is generally accurate. The errors are minimal and do not impede communication. The lexical range is adequate to express the ideas clearly, even though those ideas do not relate to the assigned prompt.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The essay displays a good variety of complex structures, such as 'Since while doing community service, they come across people...', and '...the practical experience which is gained... makes it a strongly recommended practice'. The majority of sentences are error-free, and the control of grammar and punctuation is generally strong. There are very few grammatical slips, and the sentence construction is sophisticated enough to convey complex thoughts clearly. The grammatical control is consistent throughout the piece.
