Student answer (Band 7.0)
A thought of working females replacing males in the sectors once dominated by them has become increasingly common. This is because the change in lifestyle has taken a mammoth dimension. This essay will outline the driving factors behind this transition and discuss why it is a positive development in the long run.
The main underpinnings associated with this phenomenon are greater access to education and proposition of gender equality. To expound, since the advocates of women empowerment have successfully fostered a culture of equal education for both males and females students, therefore, women have better access for higher education. Consequently, more women are graduating with advanced qualifications in all career streams, and compete with the men for jobs in multiple disciplines. Furthermore, the social norms have undergone a humongous change and instilled a concept of gender equality, which has supported the notion of equal rights with respect to workplace practices. For instance, as per the report published by University of Toronto in 2024, both men and women earn equal per hour wages in Ontario whereas two decades earlier women earned 25% less than men. Hence, the above example substantiate how society has changed its attitudes towards women.
To answer the second question it is a positive development which will have profound impact in the future. The dominant reason is, while women work hard to excel in their careers, the two income household helps to curb the high cost of living. Another contributing factor is the when women achieve recognition in their field of employment, they set an example and inspire other women of underprivileged societies to step forward and work harder to make their dreams come true.
To conclude, universal access to education and sophisticated social attitudes have equipped women to broaden their horizons and substitute men in most of the career fields. In my opinion, this change is paramount as women play a consequential role in shaping the future of younger generations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to address the task prompt entirely. The prompt asks for an opinion on who should fund medical research (private companies, individuals, or government). However, the essay discusses the topic of women entering male-dominated career sectors. This is a complete misunderstanding of the task. While the essay is well-structured and develops its own (irrelevant) topic logically, it cannot be scored for Task Achievement regarding the actual prompt provided. In an official IELTS examination, this would be treated as a memorized or off-topic response, resulting in a very low score for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
Despite the off-topic content, the essay demonstrates a clear logical progression. Paragraphs are well-organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To expound', 'Consequently', 'Furthermore', and 'To conclude' are used effectively to link ideas. The internal structure of the argument is coherent, even though the argument itself does not address the prompt. The use of referencing is generally clear, and the flow of ideas is logical throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.5
The student uses a good range of vocabulary, including some sophisticated items such as 'underpinnings', 'phenomenon', 'substantiate', and 'paramount'. There is an attempt to use less common lexical items, and the control is generally good. However, there are some minor collocation issues, such as 'proposition of gender equality' (should be 'promotion') and 'humongous change' (which is slightly informal for an academic essay). Overall, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning with precision, despite the irrelevance of the topic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The essay displays a variety of complex structures, including conditional-like clauses and relative clauses. Most sentences are error-free, and the grammar is generally accurate. There are occasional slips, such as 'the two income household' (should be 'two-income households') and 'the when women achieve' (an unnecessary 'the'). Punctuation is generally handled well. The range of structures is sufficient to demonstrate good control, and the errors present do not impede communication or cause confusion for the reader.
