A thought of balancing both work and family has been increasingly common. This is because change in lifestyle has taken mammoth dimensions. This essay will clearly state the issues associated with this trend and will give optimal solutions to mitigate this situation.

To commence with, the problems behind the phenomenon are rapidly rising health issues and marriages failing at an alarming pace. To expound, since the individuals are juggling to maintain the work-life balance, they end up cutting time for their sleep and relaxation, which results in deterioration of their physical and mental health. Furthermore, even though people are trying to achieve the best of both worlds, they still end up with conflicts at home. This is because they expect their partners to understand their formidable situation while balancing both career and home. To exemplify, an experiment conducted in Japan in 2024 showcased that working married women had reported higher divorce rates when compared to housewives. Hence the above example vividly illustrates how both working and managing households take a toll on people.

To address the second question, some plausible solutions are setting clear work boundaries and asking for help when necessary. To elaborate, while it is crucial for an organization to retain hard working employees, they should also respect strict work boundaries. This will allow employees to disconnect from work and focus more on their personal lives without being distracted even if they are at home. What is more, though individuals try their level best to perfect their roles on both sides, they should not hesitate to ask for help whether childcare or domestic, to reduce their physical and mental stress. By outsourcing some duties to others, they can get much needed rest which will help them recover and bond better with their partners. Thus the aforementioned steps substantiate how issues can be resolved.

To conclude, this essay has clearly discussed that worsening health and conflicts in marriages are problems associated with this trend, it has also highlighted ardent steps such as creating hard work boundaries and delegating tasks are required to tackle the problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response is completely off-topic. The prompt asks for an opinion on who should fund medical research (private companies, individuals, or government). However, the essay discusses work-life balance and marriage conflicts. Because the student failed to address the prompt entirely, the task achievement score is severely impacted. While the essay is well-structured and follows the format of an IELTS essay, it does not answer the specific question posed in the task instructions. To improve, it is essential to read the prompt carefully and ensure the content directly relates to the topic provided.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

Despite being off-topic, the essay demonstrates a good grasp of paragraphing and logical progression. Each paragraph has a clear topic sentence, and the use of cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'To expound', and 'To conclude' is effective. The ideas within the paragraphs flow logically, even though they are irrelevant to the actual prompt. The student uses a variety of linking words to connect ideas, which shows a good understanding of how to structure an academic essay, even if the content does not meet the task requirements.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.5

The student displays a good range of vocabulary, using terms like 'mitigate', 'formidable', 'substantiate', and 'ardent'. The language is generally natural and precise, and the student avoids repetitive phrasing. While the vocabulary is sophisticated, it is being used to discuss an irrelevant topic. If the student were to apply this level of lexical control to the correct prompt, they would likely achieve a much higher score. There are no significant spelling or word-choice errors that impede communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 8.0

The student uses a variety of complex sentence structures, such as 'even though people are trying to achieve the best of both worlds, they still end up with conflicts at home'. The grammar is generally accurate, with only minor slips. The control over punctuation and sentence variety is strong, and the majority of sentences are error-free. The student demonstrates the ability to use complex structures effectively, which is a hallmark of a higher band score. The grammatical range is sufficient for a high-level response.
