Student answer (Band 7.0)

Research projects are massively in demand overall for a profile in an individual life. These days , numerous medical research projects are supported by private companies. This essay will discuss several reasons of this view and my opinion that it should be viewed by the private companies .

To begin with , private companies are immensely growing in all the areas. Firstly , the medical research would be taken as improving the health related issues as companies would analyse the research work will get to know the medical cures and other things. For instance, private pharma company, discovered effective antiviral treatments for the disease. Secondly, private firms would have lots of money to spend on big tests by gathering lots of research projects. Additionally, private companies often have access to cutting-edge technology and skilled specialists, which allows them to speed up the research and development process. Since these companies compete with each other in the market, they are motivated to produce results quickly and efficiently, rather than working at the slower pace .

However, the government would analyse the research work on a biased way as political interests may influence which areas of health receive funding. For example, during election periods, governments may increase funding for diseases affecting a large voter base while neglecting rarer conditions that require equal attention.

In conclusion, private companies play a vital role in advancing medical research due to their financial strength, technological resources, and result-driven approach, compared to government funding which can be influenced by political bias. Therefore, I believe medical research should continue to be supported primarily by private companies.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in favor of private funding. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the mention of antiviral treatments and the comparison with government political bias. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the benefits of private companies are well-explained, the discussion regarding government funding is brief and could have been more deeply explored to provide a more balanced perspective. The introduction is a bit vague, particularly the phrase 'profile in an individual life,' which does not clearly relate to the topic of medical research funding. Overall, the response is clear and maintains a consistent position throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'Firstly,' 'Additionally,' and 'However' are used effectively to link sentences and paragraphs. While the flow is generally good, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing in the first paragraph is a bit weak. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the structure supports the overall argument well, making the text easy to read and understand.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at using more sophisticated terms like 'cutting-edge technology' and 'result-driven approach.' However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward phrasing, such as 'massively in demand overall for a profile in an individual life' and 'viewed by the private companies.' These minor inaccuracies do not impede communication, but they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on using collocations more naturally and avoiding overly generic phrases that do not add specific meaning to the argument.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'analyse the research work will get to know' (missing subject/conjunction) and 'analyse the research work on a biased way' (incorrect preposition). Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the text. The punctuation is generally accurate, and the sentence variety is sufficient to convey the argument. To reach a higher band, focus on ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with greater precision and that prepositions are used correctly in context.
