Student answer (Band 6.5)
Recently, a lot of research projects related to medicine are being funded by private firms mostly related to pharma. We will discuss about how far this is helpful and what are its consequences.
As far as my knowledge is concerned, this is a great innitiative which private companies have started because it reduces a lot of pressure from the governments and the individuals doing the research projects on their own.
Although, in most cases private groups do this task for the sake of their personal benefits. Because if they do the research regarding to a disease, they can create a drug or a medication related to its cure which would be helpful in generating them a lot of revenue in their future. For instance, if a private firm is working on a project related to a viral infection whose cure is not discovered yet, the reseach, if turned out to be successful can generate them billions because they would be the first ones to create a medicine. They would be helping the humanity with their results as well.
Many universities also have their own research labs and they have their individuals working on some research tasks there. But they are not as compatible as the private companies because of the lack of resources as they are only limited to the labs and assets their institute offers.
Also, medical projects being run by governments are loaded with corruption in most cases, as the officials prioritize their own benefits and ignore their responsibilities when there is no strict law and policy for control.
In the end, I'd say that the research projects carried out and funded by private firms are far more useful as compared to those funded by some individuals or government institutes.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the role of private companies in medical research. You clearly state your position that private funding is the most useful. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While you provide a clear reason for private involvement (profit motive leading to innovation), the discussion regarding government and university research is less developed and relies on generalizations, such as the claim that government projects are 'loaded with corruption.' To reach a higher band, ensure that each viewpoint is supported with more balanced, nuanced arguments rather than sweeping statements. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance, but the overall depth of the argument could be improved by exploring the potential downsides of private funding more thoroughly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the topic. There is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Although,' 'For instance,' and 'In the end,' to link your thoughts. However, the transition between paragraphs could be smoother, and some cohesive devices are used in a slightly mechanical way. For example, the start of the second paragraph with 'Although' is grammatically awkward as it does not connect to a preceding clause. Improving the variety and precision of your linking words will help the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'initiative,' 'revenue,' and 'assets.' There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'innitiative' (spelling) and 'compatible' (used incorrectly to mean 'capable' or 'competitive'). Additionally, phrases like 'related to' are repeated frequently, which limits the sophistication of your writing. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and synonyms to avoid repetition. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher band scores.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'We will discuss about' (unnecessary preposition), 'generating them a lot of revenue' (awkward phrasing), and 'the reseach, if turned out to be successful' (incorrect verb tense/structure). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are instances where sentence boundaries could be better managed. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.
