Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the role of private companies in medical research, but it fails to fully explore the roles of individuals and the government as requested. The ideas are somewhat underdeveloped, and the essay is under the minimum word count, which negatively impacts the depth of the argument. While a position is stated, the lack of sufficient word count prevents a fully developed response. To improve, you should ensure that each stakeholder mentioned in the prompt is given a dedicated paragraph or clear section to ensure a balanced and comprehensive discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into three short paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as starting sentences with 'Further point' or 'Thus'. Paragraphing is present but the content within the paragraphs lacks a clear flow, making the transition between ideas feel abrupt. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, with frequent spelling errors such as 'reseurch', 'meny', 'certein', 'regubation', 'muking', and 'depurtment'. These errors are distracting and occasionally impede the reader's understanding. The range of vocabulary is basic, and there is little attempt to use less common or academic collocations. To reach a higher band, you must focus on accurate spelling and expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary related to medical research and economic development.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with article usage ('the government', 'the medical aid'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack proper punctuation, which makes the text difficult to follow. There is a limited range of complex structures, and the attempts at them are often inaccurate. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms.
