Student answer (Band 6.5)

Medical research projects play vital role in the growth of medical field. Therefore, raising fund for research project has become topic of debate across the world. In my opinion, it depends on type of research project such as if project requires expensive equipment then government should pay for it and if research project is for individual interest then specifically company should pay for it.

To explain, experiments on vaccination need highly educated scientists and highly magnified microscopes with medical devices. In such conditions, an industry or individuals cannot afford therefore administration invest on these kind of trials. These trials are meant to be save the people's lives. Ultimately, government funds are taxes, those paid by citizens. As a result, it is government responsibility to take care of those medical research projects which are expensive for scientists.

Furthermore, Some research does not need any observation or costly equipment. For instant, if a project is launched and investigators want to make prototype. In these condition, particular person or a company could lead the research. Hence, companies or individuals can perform their own research without help of government. Therefore, it is better to prioritise cursory research via companies or individuals according to their area of interest.

To conclude, in our country a lot of research are managed by government because of it need multiple instruments, a lot of people efforts and that cannot be cover by company. However, there are some research projects are handled by individuals because they are efficient and experienced in such fields therefore they are able to do it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by providing a clear opinion on who should fund medical research. You have categorized the funding sources based on the nature of the research, which is a logical approach. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why individuals or companies should fund 'cursory' research is brief and could benefit from more specific examples or deeper analysis of the implications. While the position is clear throughout, the supporting arguments are slightly repetitive and lack the depth required for a higher band score. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph provides a more robust justification for your stance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. You use cohesive devices such as 'To explain,' 'Furthermore,' and 'To conclude' to guide the reader through your argument. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'For instant' (which should be 'For instance') and the repetitive use of 'Therefore' at the start of sentences. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and better referencing to avoid repetitive sentence structures. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'vaccination,' 'prototype,' and 'investigators.' However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'raising fund' (should be 'raising funds'), 'administration invest' (should be 'the administration invests'), and 'cursory research' (which is not the ideal collocation here). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and you rely on basic descriptors. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and precise academic terminology to express your ideas with greater nuance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include missing articles ('play vital role' instead of 'play a vital role'), subject-verb agreement issues ('a lot of research are managed' instead of 'a lot of research is managed'), and awkward phrasing ('that cannot be cover by company'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from being considered error-free. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly article usage and verb forms, will significantly improve your score.
