Nowadays, many medical research projects are funded by private companies. In your opinion, do you think that research should be carried by private companies, individuals or government?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In contemporary society, government has allocated funds to private companies for medical research. Nevertheless, some people contend that research should be doing by private companies, individual and government because process becomes smooth and fast. Therefore, i agree with this statement and the reasons and relevant examples discussed in the following paragraphs.
To begin with, medical research is very crucial for humanity because without innovation people can face a lot of obstacles and research should be mainly carried by group of people.
First and foremost, country gets higher innovation and project deadline is also smaller. Consequently, people can face small number of problems. For instance, if group of people research carried on a new medicine, it would be faster and beneficial to society. In addition, transparency is also matter in research, thus government and individual should include in this process.
Moreover, there are substantial benefits when private companies, individual and government participate. Firstly, private companies can focus more on research compared to government and for research need many permission from government, thus both are important in projects. For instance, in medical field, researchers have to take permission for doing experiments on animals, so when government participate in research, they can easily allow to do experiments. Individuals also have a substantial role because many individuals have their own innovative ideas. As a result, they can implement their idea on bigger level.
To conclude, although medical research projects have allocated to private companies, i believe government and individual should be participated on the ground that it has colossal advantages such as process become faster, smooth, transparency.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the roles of private companies, individuals, and the government in medical research. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention that collaboration leads to faster processes and transparency, the arguments remain somewhat superficial and lack concrete, well-explained examples. For instance, the mention of 'permission for doing experiments on animals' is a relevant point, but it is not fully explored to show how government involvement specifically improves the outcome. To improve, ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed argument that directly supports your position, providing more depth to your reasoning rather than listing general benefits.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'First and foremost', 'Consequently', and 'Moreover'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as the transition 'transparency is also matter in research'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the link between 'group of people' and the broader argument is vague. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the progression between sentences is smoother and more logical.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate to convey your meaning, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You rely on basic descriptors like 'very crucial', 'small number', and 'big level'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'research should be doing' (should be done) and 'government and individual should include in this process' (should be included). To improve, try to incorporate more academic vocabulary and precise collocations related to the topic of research and funding, such as 'collaborative efforts', 'regulatory oversight', or 'financial backing'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'government has allocated' vs 'government and individual should be participated'), missing articles, and incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'research should be doing'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are errors in sentence construction that affect clarity. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence patterns and proofreading for common errors like verb tense consistency and the correct use of passive voice, which is essential for this type of academic writing.
