Student answer (Band 5.5)

in the contemporary society, most of the research projects of medical domain are financially supported by private organizations. a lot of diseases should be cured as they are creating many living problems, there should be research on them to know about their causes, symptoms and solutions. in this essay, i will discuss that government should fund most of the medical research projects because they can provide a wide range of resources and can also bear a loss.

private companies own less resources and utilization of less resources to produce a high-quality product will result in an expensive outcome, which will be out of reach for most of the middle-class group. since they own a limited number of resources and limited number of human capitals, the process will be time taking.

nowadays, it has become impossible to do research individually because of the high expenses. in past, much research was made by the individuals, providing a lot of benefits. idea of an individual can be utilized but the whole process carried out by an individual is not possible.

in my opinion, research should be funded by government because it's their responsibility to work for the welfare of the nation. furthermore, they own many resources and can bear if there will be any loss. they can provide big platforms and carry out the research on the larger scale. in addition, the product produce will be affordable and easy to buy.

in conclusion, private companies and individuals should collaborate with government for the sake of better research and those companies and individuals should be rewarded.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that government funding is preferable. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that private companies have limited resources and that government can bear losses, these points are not fully extended with specific examples or deeper analysis. The argument regarding individuals is also quite brief. To reach a higher band, you should provide more concrete examples of how government-funded research has historically led to better public outcomes compared to private research, or explain the specific mechanisms by which private funding leads to higher costs for the public. The essay covers all parts of the task, but the depth of argumentation is inconsistent.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'furthermore', 'in addition', and 'in conclusion' to link your ideas. However, the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is slightly mechanical. Some sentences within paragraphs feel disconnected, such as the jump from discussing private companies to the mention of individual researchers. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the flow could be improved by using more sophisticated linking phrases to show the relationship between your arguments rather than just listing them. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'financially supported', 'human capitals', and 'welfare of the nation'. However, there is a lack of variety and precision. Some phrases are repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'resources' and 'research'. There are also some minor inaccuracies in collocation, such as 'much research was made' (should be 'conducted') and 'product produce' (should be 'product produced'). To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition and demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include missing articles ('in the contemporary society' should be 'in contemporary society'), incorrect verb forms ('much research was made' instead of 'conducted'), and punctuation issues. There are also some awkward phrasings, such as 'can bear if there will be any loss'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
