Student answer (Band 5.0)

some people thinks that medical research projects should be funded by private companies but in my opinion medical research projects should be funded by government because my siblings are specialists in ent, gynaecologist and paediatrics and they talks a couples of time that medical research projects are not performed so well just because of private companies . private companies do not have suffient amount of funds that they can gave or invest in medical fields.

on the other hands, in many european countries medical research projects was funded by private companies and they have also same hurdles. After that medical researchers started their researches individually and they have also same issues with them about funds.

Now last couples of years government directly involved in it and now they provided them funds for medical research. After that funds their researches are now published on time with latest surveys and knowledge. just because of that their medical research fields are now growing very fast, a large number of disease, cures and their causes are now reseached timely.

In conclusion if medical research projects are funded by government than a large number of projects can be finished timely and our medical research fields can grow fastly from which a large of diseses, their causes and thier cures can we find out. From which a large number of patients can be cured.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a preference for government funding, but the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. The arguments provided—such as the mention of siblings in the medical field—are anecdotal and lack the depth required for an academic essay. Furthermore, the response is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which prevents a full exploration of the topic. The conclusion restates the main point but does not add new insight. To improve, you should expand your arguments with more general evidence or logical reasoning rather than personal anecdotes, and ensure you meet the minimum word count to fully develop your position.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices like 'on the other hands' and 'in conclusion', these are often used incorrectly or mechanically. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to follow the flow of the argument. For example, the transition between the discussion of private companies and government funding is abrupt. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that supports your overall argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, which restricts the ability to express complex ideas. There are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'suffient amount of funds' instead of 'sufficient funding' and 'reseached timely' instead of 'researched in a timely manner'. The phrasing is often simplistic, and there is a lack of academic vocabulary related to the topic of medical research or public policy. To improve, try to learn collocations related to research, such as 'allocate resources', 'financial backing', or 'scientific advancement', and focus on using more precise terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('some people thinks', 'they talks'), tense usage ('research projects was funded'), and sentence structure. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with some errors in punctuation and word order. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage. Additionally, practice constructing more complex sentences using subordinating conjunctions to improve the flow and grammatical variety of your writing.
