Student answer (Band 5.5)
In the current era, medical research plays a crucial role in the medical field. Now most research projects are currently funded by private companies only. This essay will dwell on this subject and validate my opinion that medical research should be carried out by the government and not by private companies or individuals.
To begin with, The government should be the main party that should do medical research projects. When the research is done by government there will no personal or commercial motivations and research project will done for the well being of the people. For example when the corona pandemic happened government all over the world funded for the research and found useful medicines and vaccines in very short time. So the government funded medical researches will have only less bias in it.
On the other hand when is medical research is conducted by private companies and individuals in most cases there will be a commercial motive. Private companies are made for making profit and these research projects are done for the same not for the well being of the people. Even when individuals are doing these researches they can have a motive to sell these projects to private companies for making money. For example when corona pandemic happened with government many private companies also made vaccines to fight against the virus and they sold the medicines at very high rates for making higher profit in the pandemic time. So there will always be commercial or person motive behind these types of researches
Therefore i conclude that medical research projects should be done the government organizations as it plays a crucial role in the well being of the people.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The essay addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that the government should be the primary funder of medical research. The ideas are relevant, focusing on the contrast between public interest and commercial profit. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, as the argument relies heavily on the same example (the COVID-19 pandemic) for both sides of the debate. To reach a higher band, you should expand your reasoning by discussing the potential benefits of private research, such as innovation speed or resource availability, and then refuting them, rather than simply stating that private companies are motivated by profit. The response is clear but lacks the depth of analysis required for a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'Therefore'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of cohesive devices is limited. For instance, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is abrupt. Additionally, some sentences are repetitive in structure, which affects the overall progression of ideas. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that ideas build upon each other more smoothly would enhance the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You frequently use phrases like 'medical research projects', 'well being of the people', and 'making profit'. While these are accurate, they do not demonstrate a wide range of vocabulary. There are also some minor collocation issues, such as 'funded for the research' instead of 'funded research'. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition. For example, instead of repeating 'making profit', you could use 'prioritizing financial gain' or 'commercial interests'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that, while not impeding communication, are noticeable. Examples include 'there will no personal or commercial motivations' (missing 'be'), 'research project will done' (missing 'be'), and 'when is medical research is conducted' (incorrect structure). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization after commas and the use of articles. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice constructions. Increasing the variety of complex sentences while ensuring they are error-free will help raise your score in this criterion.
