Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowdays, many medical research projects are funded by private companies. In my opinion the private companies do not carried the research because the private company have not any resource. He worked its only limited resource and limited budget. The private company do not have carried the research because the private company people not have most experience. The medical research projects are very expenses so the private company does not have any resource to provide the funded to medical research. In second the individual and government provide excellent funded reaserch to private company. The government provide excellent resource and environment The government provide fully funded research projects. If the government support the medical research project the country research many medical which treat the medical field and also work for aganist new sympotos. The private company do not have any much budget which support ro funded the medical field. The main reason why governments should fund medical research is that healthcare is a public responsibility. Government funded research can focus on diseases and treatments that may not be highly profitable for private companies. For example, research into rare diseases may not generate enough money for a pharmaceutical company, but it can be extremely important for the patients who suffer from these conditions. Governments can also make sure that research is conducted according to ethical and safety standards.

Individuals and charities can contribute as well, particularly by supporting research into specific diseases. However, their financial resources are generally limited compared with governments and large companies. Therefore, they should be considered an additional source of funding rather than the main one.

In conclusion, I believe that governments should take the leading role in funding medical research because the results can benefit the whole population. Nevertheless, cooperation between governments, private companies and individuals is the best way to achieve effective and ethical medical progress.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear opinion that governments should lead medical research funding. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. The first paragraph is repetitive and contains several inaccuracies regarding the nature of private companies, which undermines the argument. The later paragraphs are much stronger, providing logical reasons such as public responsibility and the focus on rare diseases. To improve, ensure that arguments are consistently developed throughout the essay rather than relying on repetitive, simplistic claims in the opening section. The position is clear, but the supporting evidence in the first half lacks depth and accuracy.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by repetitive phrasing and a lack of smooth transitions between sentences. For example, the repeated use of 'The private company' at the start of multiple sentences makes the flow feel mechanical. While cohesive devices like 'In conclusion' and 'However' are used, the overall logical flow is interrupted by the disjointed nature of the initial arguments. Improving the use of linking words and varying sentence starters would significantly enhance the coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There is significant repetition of basic terms such as 'research', 'funded', and 'private company'. Some word choices are awkward or incorrect, such as 'aganist new sympotos' (against new symptoms) and 'provide the funded' (provide funding). While the student manages to convey their meaning, the range is limited, and there is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic language. Expanding the range of synonyms and focusing on correct word forms would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('the private company have not any resource'), incorrect verb forms ('do not carried'), and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing spaces after periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of basic grammatical errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence construction, specifically verb tense consistency and article usage, is essential for improvement.
